You are at risk. You need to put freezes on your credit reports and request another certificate from the county you were born in.
I hope nothing bad happens. |

Well... lemme put it this way... I could bag you with just a photo of your credit card taken with my cellphone in a line or something... hand someone a birth certificate... it's like handing them the deed to a house... the house being you.. |

well i guess it just depends on where you lost it, i mean if you lost it some where in your house i mean no one could really still your identity but if you lost it some where else you need to call the City Hall that is there in your town but you cant really do anything until they still your identity but all you can do is go get another one but you might have to pay a fine to get another one. |

Unless your social security number is on it, you should be okay. I would pull my credit report within sixty days to see if there has been activity. |

If it was your original birth certificate, then you are extremely vulnerable. If it were a copy, then whoever finds it will need a second supporting document.
What you need to do is visit the Federal Trade Commission website and check out their Identity Theft Kit. With it, you'll be able to clear up any problems that might arise from having lost your birth certificate. The kit has lots of information on what forms to fill out and where to mail them. Plus it has information on the Social Security Administration fraud protection section. You'll need to contact them and inform them of what has happened.
If you don't want to search endlessly through the FTC's large website, go to this page and you'll get the kit for free: http://creditrepair.topreviewslist.com/High_Tech_ID_Theft.html |

You are at a pretty big risk, from my own experience of habving my identity stolen last year, the best solution now that your document could be compromised is an ID theft protection plan with monitoring that covers all 4 types, credit, social security, medical and criminal. Most ID theft plans only cover credit theft which is the easiest to fix and you are most at risk of the other 3 types. Here is a link to the plan I use: http://BestIDTheftProtection.info it is the best I found and covers all 4 types.
I hope this helps! |

Just your name and birthdate will be stolen. but if a thief is real good, they can easily gain knowledge of your SS #. Hopefully. There will be no damage done to your name. With the laws changing about indentity theft and the punishement one could recieve( some states this is now a felony if used) Just a little advice, Don't ever walk around with your main IDentification ie birth certificate , SS # , Pins # to accounts in your pocket. Once this happens you would need to put an alert on your credit and this can be a pain later on in the future. |

Chill. Losing your birth certificate is not the same as losing your social security number (unless it's embossed on there. When I was born 50 yrs ago it wasn't attached).
Best to get a credit guard through all 3 credit bureaus first so that you'll be alerted if any activity occurs using your SSN. |

how did u lose your birth certificate?the hospital probably has you on record. but if u lost it it doesnt nessisarily mean someone stole it. if u do have identity theft then have the hospital idenify u to the cops and take an imediate photo of u know in case ur questioned |
