mike | I messed up.? |
we had a bill from 2006 in our old house. the gas bill was in my then 17 (in 2003) year old sons name, because I had an unpaid bill myself. I had a lot of health problems when we moved last year, and didnt work for months. the bill was turned over to collections and now shows up on my sons credit. I want to fix this situation. I paid the bill yesterday. But it still shows up in his name. What can I do to get this now paid bill off of his credit? |

Normally, those kind of things take about 1 month to get adjusted/removed from your credit. Usually, It gets adjusted/removed the next reporting month-not immediately. Companies report every 30 days. Did the company say they would remove it from his credit altogether? If so, keep checking to make sure it is removed within 30-60 days-if not-your son will have to dispute it with the credit reporting bureaus-not a good thing for you if he's honest about what happened. Normally collection accouts remain on your credit even if paid unless your paid for deletion, or the company agreed to remove it. If they did, you should have had it in writing.
My friend's aunt used her information on utility & credit card bills. When the poor girl was old enough to establish credit it was already ruined. She could not even finance a car or get electric in her name at her new apartment. Please be careful. Your son will most likely not want to press the issue against you, so it may stay on his credit for a while-meaning 7 years. Sorry you had to resort to such a drastic decision.
You people are wicked! I too want to know didn't get a thumbs down! Everyone has a thumbs down, but no one is saying anything much better than the last! What do you people want? |

Your son would have to dispute it as "not my account" with the credit bureaus.
He was underage when the bill occured. Therefore, he could not legally have entered into a contract. |

There is nothing you can do, it will show on his credit report as a paid collection item for 7 years from the date the bill was paid.
It may have been your bill but as far as the creditor and the collection agency are concerned it was your son's because they had his SS#.
Your best option for getting it off his report is now gone since you have already paid it. Sometimes, you can do what is referred to as a PFD or pay for delete. You offer to pay in full immediately in return for the collection item being removed from your credit report.
BTW, infiniti is WRONG. Minors can enter into and be legally liable for debts/contracts incurred for necessities, such as a gas bill for heat. |

Everyone's getting a thumbs down! Well who has the perfect answer then?
Mike, sorry but you did mess up. You should have asked for a deletion letter before you paid it. Now it will remain on your son's credit for 7 years, unless he files a fraud claim. (you don't want that!) Even then, there is no guarantee it will get removed from his credit. He could try to dispute it-again, it will probably come back verified and it will remain.
This may haunt him for years to come. I hope you can help him financially when they charge him through the roof for things!
Good Luck! |

Wow, You guys are brutal! Why crucify a sick man? Sorry friend, but you did mess up. Jesus said let the perfect man cast the first stone. How many of you will step up to the plate? |

That will remain on his credit for 7 yrs
And there is nothing you can do to get it removed because it's a legit bill |

I'm not 100% sure about this.
You stole his identity. He has to file a police report on you and then send a copy to the credit reporting agency. |

Once you pay the bill i hear it takes like almost 90 days before it's taken off your or his credit. |

It will come off of his credit eventually. Right now it will be showing up as a charge off. It won't affect him much if at all. Charge offs are good because it shows that the person is trying to make sure their credit is clean. |
