That's fraud.

I suggest you talk to your parents, since you are a minor and they should be responsible for the bill.
-------
"If a debt appears on a minor's credit report, he/she can call the credit reporting agency and dispute the account stating that he/she was a minor. Once received, the credit reporting agency would follow the necessary steps to verify the information with the creditor."

Basically, do the same stuff you would normally do to dispute a debt.

On a visceral level - you should be flogged.

just tell them you screwed up or get your parents involved - theyll be pissed but at least theyll know what to do.

Okay, you're under 18 and still a minor. While lying on the application isn't a wise move, it won't send you to jail or anything. You need to know that your parents or guardian is responsible (to a point) for bills you run up on the card, so you'll want to have them help you close the account. Then if there are any charges on that account, you may be able to get them written off--but it will definitely mess up your credit if you do. Talk it over with your folks. Yes, they'll have a cow, but at least they will help you get it straightened out.

Looks like you learned what NOT to do, first. Hey, everybody makes mistakes. At least this is one you'll remember and learn from. (It's okay to say this to Mom and Dad, too.) Best of luck.

I hope something bad really happens to you. Why would you do something like that???? If you are just 16 doing these kinds of things.......I can only imagine what you are gonna do when you are 25.

thats credit card fraud and its a criminal offence.

own up now before you get in any more trouble.

my advice because i worked for a credit card company......if theres any balance on the card pay it in full, then call them and say you want to cancel the card, they will try to talk you out of it and probably transfer you to their retention department, dont give in, tell them to cancel immediatly, dont say anything about your age, when they ask your date of birth tell them whatever you put on the application, once you paid it in full and cancelled it then never talk about it again to any other credit agencies etc and you should be ok. i would do it quickly though, hope this helps

skcs11
you falsified a form, and your credit will be ruined if foound out, along with anything you used it for that is illegal to be 18 to do it, and you are not 18.

Willie
Doubtful. They will probably revoke your card and make you pay it off, but I doubt they would take legal action aginst you,,unless for some reason you decide not to pay them.

Melanie P
that's odd. i thought that they would usually they check your social security number with your birthdate. but i guess not. you scored. actually, the credit card company cannot do anything because u r a minor. if u r under 18 u cannot enter any legal or binding contract with other people, ie credit cards. so like if you decided not to pay, I think that they cannot do anything cause its their fault they issued a minor the card. however it may get tricky since u lied. if u want to be safe, cut it up, unless u really need it.

Minors aren't liable on their contracts. Period. You don't have to pay it.

The criminal implications are another matter. Since you are only 16 it is EXTREMELY doubtful that they will bring charges.

You are not liable on the debt. I've seen alot of kids do this and it's the credit card companies error. You don't have to pay it.

Well if you don't pay it. They can legally go after your guardians at the time for penalties, interest, etc..
Even 1990, you are 16 and some states consider you an adult therefore, this debt is yours.
The bad thing is this, you committed fraud. If the creditor wants, they can pursue this and the courts will assess penalties in excess of $5k or more. Also they may argue (depends on the size of the debt and items purchased) that you committed fraud with intent to steal. Meaning no intentions on repayment. Being a minor and doing this in essence will screw you up on your credit report for a decade or more. However, you can counter argue that through their verification systems, they did not catch your age according to your social security number and you could argue for waiver of federal liabilities (if it ever goes that far). Usually, don't worry, nothing will happen. Most that could happen is collection calls and letters and possible contact to your parents or guardian.
I suggest you pay this, so not to ruin your future credit.
Laws vary according to state. Check on consumer credit laws in your state and check the FDCPA 95-109 for collections, and check with the FTC.gov for further enforcement and collection assistance issues.

Look, I am not going to tell you that you could also get away with this, taking the merchandise and never paying it etc... There are legal avenues for you to get away scott free. Sorry, I wont post those laws here. However, depending on your state laws, that might happen and it might not. Being a minor, consider yourself lucky. However, you better pay it before mom and dad are hit up with it.
THe state laws also are different for the amount of purchases. That means we are talking misdemeanors or different classes of felonies.
For instance, in a locale, a state considers a felony theft by check or non payment as an amount over $500.00. Anything under is a misdemeanor offense.

Uhhh YEAH something could happen to you. It's called fraud and it probably has to do with something federal. Who's the moron company that actually issued you the card? Didn't they check the social and etc.?
You need to call the company and play dumb, act like you got the card in the mail but you didn't order it, what's going on, etc... It will get cleared up from there, and you need to cut up the card and make sure the account is closed. It's a fraudulent account and when actual money starts being tied to it (if you ever used the card) it'll get more serious and then you can't make the excuse that you never ordered it under false pretenses.
