I need an apt. I was denied 4 yrs ago with a 585 credit score in CA. Now it's 640. Will I have problems? ?
As I said above, I want an apt. I'm a teacher w/ ten years in the field. What are my chances of being approved in a decent area. I take home 3500/mo. and want something in the 1000+-200 range?

I think that score will qualify you. I would look for something that's no more than 30% of your take home income, which in your case would be no more than $1050 -- this amount should include utilities. Rule of thumb is that your housing expenses should be no more than 28% of your salary.

ive gotten apartments with a way lower credit score than that. if you still get denied try to rent through a personal owner who doesnt pull your credit. i now rent a 2 bdrm house with no credit report as long as i had the security deposit and the first month rent the place was mine.

640 is still a little bit low...keep trying to get it up. They consider 730 and up good scores.

A lot of apartments dont require a credit check. If you find one you really like just show them your pay history and some good references., I live in Ohio so things are probably different. . I am renting a two family house.. I think usually apt buildings are the ones that do a credit check. . good luck

It sounds like you might stand a much better chance this time around, but with the economy being what it is, who can even guess whether you will get it. I see no reason based on you alone, for you to be turned down.

Some renters are horrible people. A $3500+ after-tax income is more than enough for a $1200 home unless the renter is just an absolute jerkwad.

Come with your references, credit reports, and the like. Consider getting a roommate.

i have never had any issues of being approved for housing. i am 20. no idea what my credit score is. and i bring in 2000 a month. I just recently rented a 4 bedroom house 1100 a month. i live in texas.

just apply all they will do is say yes or no

Each company has their own policy concerning granting credit. Most companies seem to look for scores of 650+ in granting credit. If I were you I would get a copy of my credit report and score and start calling apartments. Don't let them pull a credit report until you are ready to sign a lease. Each time a credit report is pulled it lowers your credit score. I would explain about your score and ask if it is an acceptable number for them to rent you an apartment. If you can show a history of paying your bills on time then they might give you an opportunity.

cutie pie
that's still low what are you doing to bring it up? you may need 700+ to get that.

shouldn't be a problem at all. your credit sounds pretty good now and if they give you any grief, show them documentation of where it was. you sound like a model tenant. plus you actually care. you'll be fine.

I think you have a good chance. If you get denied at one place, I would try another. I had horrible credit at my last apt, and they just made me put down an extra 200 dollar deposit.

hey huh???

Maybe not in that price range
