I need some serious advice on my credit report?????? at my wits end (UK only)?
recieved my Equifax credit report and O2 (mobile phone company) have defaulted an account i apparently had with them for £10 in September 2003,
i had ordered a contract phone from them on that date (and paid £100 for it) but i never recieved it, contacyed o2 n they refunded me back my money, for months afterwards i recieved emails sayin i owed them £50, sometimes hundreds of pounds n if its not paid they will take action.
i phoned them about this and they said it was a mistake on their side,
now last week i ordered my equifax credit report and they have defaulted me £10 for an account wich should never have been active cuz i didnt recieve the phone,
contacted equifax to investigate and they said they couldnt remove the default as o2 hadnt given them permission, equifax gave me their customer service number and told me that o2 should arrange a credit to wipe off the default,
now today i phoned o2 to explain the situation and as soon as i mentioned Equifax they wouldnt help me
Additional Details
they said they coulnt help me because i couldnt provide them with a password to bring up my account, (i never had a password as never had the phone to register it) they just kept puttin me on hold and wouldnt let me explain what they had done wrong, the default should never have gone onto my credit file, they just gave me an address to write to which i have looked up and it doesnt exist, im sooooo angry , i dont no what to do, at my wits end, can anyone help??????????????

Try calling again and hope you get a more helpful response.

If that fails, put the whole thing in writing to the managing director of O2, demanding immediate action.

Get down to your nearest citizens advice bureau they are good at handling these things or try and get in contact with of-com i think is the people you need to talk to about phone probs.
Hope you can get this sorted out as it's not your fault.

Get a court order for the small claims court £18.Send it registered to 02 with your details.Do not agree to drop it until you have been paid for your trouble. No chance it goes to court.
No chance of it costing you 1 penny. They do this to frustrate. It
was them who acted without you consent in handing over your details.Your deal ended when they repaid you.Or write to a national paper such as Express who have a person who chases these cases up.I would go the court route.

first get ahold of the credit bur ea and see if they are a listed as a business. then if they aren't then take action. some companies use other companies and that is fraud. i don't know if that is the case, but it does happen. keep there phone number just in case that is the problem. if they gave you a address then write to their credit department and tell them that you have talked to their customer service and they gave you the run around, and if something isn't done then you are going to report them to the credit bureauu. most of the time you can get there address off the computer. i think they even give a phone number. if you call the credit burea they may give you some possibilities in the way to handle this problem.
i believe it is called the better business credit bureau.

i don't know if this will help you but it want hurt to try. good luck with it.

Ive had something very similar happen to me, i had to get this thing off my credit report before i could get any credit.
Call them again, tell them you're going to report them to FSA is they dont deal with you. Get them to send you a letter on 02 headed paper confirming you shouldnt have this Default, then send that to Equifax with a covering letter, recorded post so they cant say they didnt get it and they should take it off with that, they did for me a year and a half a go. This default will probably be on Experian aswell so you'd have to go through the same process there.

I had the same problem with Phones 4u. Call Equifax and explin that they aren't playing ball. The guys and gals at Equifax were really helpful to me and they can then talk you through where to go next.

There are a number of steps you should take here:
1: Write a letter to the Chief Exec of O2. You will be able to get his name via the Net. Set out in detail what has happened and ask for an immediate correction of your files. There are 3 major credit agencies - Equifax, Experian and Call Credit. Ensure that you send the letter Recorded Delivery, Ensure that you address the envelope to the Chief Exec and mark it "Personal and Confidential". That way he will open it and action will be taken and followed up.
2: Write to all 3 Credit Reference agencies (addresses from Internet) and ask for a Notice of Correction to be put on your file with each one. By law, a credit company has to read a Notice of Correction prior to making a decision on any application for credit. Their systems will not allow progression until it has been read. You can state the circumstances of the default and have your say.
3: Any default should only be on your file for 3 years, a CCJ lasts six, so it should be dropping off anyway.
4: Don't worry, a £10 default from 2003 would normally be ignored provided all other credit is fine. It would also be unlikely to affect your credit score, again provided all else is squeaky clean.

You question can be better handled by a debt and credit expert. Check websites like http://askexpert.info/debtadvice.htm

do you have a local citizens advice bureau?? they will help you loads... visit them asap..
mobile phone company's are useless on any score, and basically don't know their *** from their elbow and will shunt you around and fob you off till you give up and go away.... before you get advice from the cab ring them again and tell them that they have committed an offense by wrongly blighting your credit score and if you do not get satisfaction NOW then you have no other option to take legal proceedings against their company.. that should light a fire under them, if you still get no joy then defiantly contact your local citizens advice.
