rich | I overdrew on my checking account any suggestens? |
I had overdraft protection but my bank took it away from me because of deluncancy, i thought I had it re-instated but tehy inturpreted me calling them for a new card as if I just wanted a debt card. I used my debt card as a credit card for a week and have been charged $33 6 seperated times for overdraft fee and a $6 charge daily untill I pay them back. After completly depositing my paycheck for the week i am still 25o dollars in debt with 5/3 Bank and can not pay them untill my next paycheck in 2 weeks. Any ideas |

Somtimes talking to the bank will get them to quit charging you additional overdraft fees. But, getting a loan or advance is probably the best option (if that is possible). Next time, read some of the fine print before using any card then you won't be in this mess again. |

Purplerain has it right. Payday advance companies often charge very high interest rates, and can send you to collections. Also, never ever use your checkcard/visa card/atm card or write a check unless you have the AVAILABLE funds to cover the transaction at that time. Many banks place holds on these purchases, but if you have other items that have not hard posted to your account, and the new items come in, it will cause an overdraft. Maintaining a check register is very helpful. I balance about everyday using online banking, and haven't had an overdraft in about three years. Nor have I had to use my overdraft protection. Hope this helps |

I will borrow money and try to pay it back as soon as possible because banks are not very nice when they don't get there money in. They will charge you everyday. |

don't worry the bank will not worry either...but if your problem is surviving until then, try to sell some items from your flat...like pieces of furniture or stuff that you can live without.... |

Borrow some money to pay it off or get one of those paycheck advances. They charge you a killing but if you really need the cash, you don't have much of a choice if you can't wait. |

Sounds like you're learning about credit the hard way.
Here's some sure fire solutions: first: don't use the debit card again until you have repaid the bank and have deposited enough money to cover your debts. Second: remember, banks make their money by charging fees. (That's pretty much the only income banks have, except loan interest.)
Overdraft protection is supposed to cover an occasional check or debit purchase that goes a little over your balance. 'Occasional' means maybe once a year or so, not three or four times a week.
My recommendation is not to buy anything until you can pay the bank back and save some money. It takes a while to build up a good financial profile, but it's really worth it. |

if you can help it, please stay away from "payday advance" places. they will make it worse. they charge far more for much less, and it starts this vicious cycle of dependency if you're living paycheck to paycheck like most of us (and it sounds like you are). i agree with Stuart, talk to the bank and let them know your situation. also, see if family or friends can help; $250 won't make or break anyone, and set up a payment plan that you WILL stick to so you don't make things bad with your people. they don't charge interest or fees like banks and payday advance places. (i'm still paying off three payday advance places, it gets ugly really quickly.) make sure you're there for them when they need it, too. |
