Boy did you ever get some blood boiling around here. I suspect that was your intent, so congratulations.

My opinion on the topic- You owe the money, pay up!

I'm in favor of bringing back debtors prisons.
If you can't afford it, DON'T BUY IT!!!

No - the credit company will understand completely. you don't want to pay them back the money they've given you because it'll make your life easier. sure, I don't even see why you should ever pay back money you've borrowed.

OF COURSE YOU NEED TO PAY THEM OFF

You might be able to disappear but your credit history won't. It will follow you like a bad smell. If you are not good at managing your money seek help with this and make arrangements to pay the debt off in a way that's affordable for your budget. Better that then bury your head in the sand, it will come back to bite you.

Yeti
.It depends on how much you owe. Their persistence to get it back will depend whether it is worth their while to chase it.

Let us know if you get away with it.

I have always wondered what would happen if I maxed out all my credit cards( £100,000+ in total) and left the country.

Of course I wouldn't really do it. That would be immoral

The amazing thing is, there are debt collectors in Spain too. Shocking, isn't it? All they have to do is get a debt collector in Spain to come after you.

Do you honestly think that by moving to another country, you suddenly just don't owe the money any more? You could move to Siberia and you'd still owe it.

are you serious??

of course you do!!

they are a credit card company.. NOT a charity!

or else we would all be running off without paying them back!

WAKEY WAKEY!

Most High Street banks and credit card companies are international, and so are the debt collection agencies they use to claim back whats theirs! Spain in not another planet and you will not escape, and if you dont settle your debts in the UK and end up settling them here, you'll have a far tougher time as they will simply put a charge on your house. Experian are in Spain too, and when a bad debt is run up here, Experian write to tell you they ahve you listed, I know because my neighbour asked me to translate the letter.
Pay up and leave with a clean record, you also need to bear in mind that many brits end up going back to the UK within two years, its much harder here to get work or get a business bringing in money and 40% is the last figure of returning brits! So, you need to bear this in mind otherwise you'll eff up your chances of sorting things out if it doesnt work here

You scum! You are planning on running out on your just debts. Why did you spend that money that you didn't have?
YES PAY THEM most credit card companies will give you generous terms to repay them.

You must realise you are talking about a debt to a international bank, you will get a credit rating that will follow you, but I have known many who have done it and got away with it, you will always live in fear of it ctching up though.

If you plan on getting a visa, mastercard, american express, etc.... Yes you have to pay them off. Credit reports will bite you in the butt.

Why, they rob people all the time, get away with it if you can,get a loan before you leave and take your chances.I hate banks. they wipe the debt after 5 years no contact. Don't feel sorry for the banks they don't do no one favours unless they are on the grab.

Ignore those two, do what you think is best, its your life.
