I went on a small vacation and stayed at a hotel i put the bill on my debit card (as credit) and the hotel still hasn't taken their money out. i left the hotel on 7/26/08 i had stayed the previous 2 nights. Is there a Statute of limitations for this kind of issue I live in Missouri and the hotel was also in missouri

Usually, the period for an authorization is 3-5 business days for a charge. During this time, the merchant must either re-authorize during this period or make the authorized amount final. If they do not, they lose the right to charge. However, they do have a right to come back and charge you up to 1 year (depending on the state) after the original stay, if they can prove that something precluded them from charging you.
Most likely, it looks as if you have a free hotel stay. Remember, they can push a charge through after the fact.. |

Check under the State of Missouri, which average Statute of limitations averge is 5 years. So If i were you I'll call the hotel. And make the stay was under your name and a relative or a friend. |

I'm not positive but it sounds to me like would hit the change over of the credit card billing cycle. Assume the hotel didn't actually process the credit request till say the 30th of July and than the credit card company billing cycle ended and the request didn't actually post until Aug something. See what shows up on the next bill. Also typical as with a check would be at least 3 months before you go into panic mode. Let's just say know it will show up soon and be prepared to cover it when it does.

DON'T spend the money.
It's not yours. You KNOW you owe the hotel. You know that they will get the money eventually. You can't talk your way out of overdraft fees when this is your mistake...and if you force the bank to do an NSF, you are guilty of theft of services. |

It is listed in your account as "pending"? If so, I would call the hotel. If not, then you got a free hotel stay. |

Check with the hotel and see what your status is. If they think it's paid, fine. But it's only right to call them, otherwise you're basically skipping out on a bill because someone made a mistake. |

You Can't Handle The Truth!!

You probably only reserved the room with your debit card details as payment security.
You will pay for it when you finish your stay. Is it so that if you fail to turn up without adequate cancellation they can take the payment for your reservation.
Check with them on this, it is quite common practice for hotels. |
