remember accruing.
I rang them but the company were not very helpful. What on earth can I do? Surely 7 years is not a reasonable time in which to demand payment.
I live in Scotland.

don,t pay it! if you haven,t made a payment in 6 years or more,they can,t do anything about it.don,t even contact them,and throw letters in the bin. |

A nice response would be to the effect "Please prove to me that I owe this debt. Do you have an original order form I submitted or something?" You see, the burden of proof is on them in a court of law. This will prevent a scam; further, it will be obvious upon you seeing the original order form if it is your handwriting, what it was that was ordered, etc.
I don't know Scottish law, but here in the US a business has to keep all business records for the entire length an account is open if the account has not been paid off. Yes, it would be a pain to find in the storage room, but I would still have your order form.
Besides, 7 years was just about 2000 ... have you heard of the ability to order from a catalog without prepayment in the last decade? You should remember this debt if you incurred it, since it is so recent, in the long time scope of things. |

I always thought it got written off after a certain amount of time,i`ve been left up to my bloody eyeballs too so i phoned the CCCS and they are a charity that give advice for free,a bit like CAB,here`s there number if it`s of any interest 0800 138 1111.They did tell me that you can pay back like £1 month and the company have to accept it if your not working,as it shows your not ignoring the debt and paying something to clear it. |

Debts are normally written off after 5 years, i would just ignore them. |

In scotland debts are written off after 5 years and wiped off your record after 6. i would just ignore the letter and ijf possible check you credit report to check and see if it is on it. |
