Why did you get one? Use it only in emergencies, use cash. If you can't afford it you probably don't need it.

pay it off every month. don't charge something that you don't have the money to pay for at the time of the purchase. credit cards can be very good to help build your credit, but they can also get out of control if you aren't careful.

NEVER I repeat NEVER get behind on payments

To keep your credit score up, pay on time each month, and keep the thing under 35% of its limit. If you go over that it actually hurts your score. Sucks, doesn't it? You can be hundreds under your limit and it still dings becuase you look like you are 'maxed out' financially.

Also, charges can take a week or two to post- so keep good records, dont rely on that automated line to tell you what your balance is. An over limit fee is $35+-- and they CAN charge you this even if its THEIR interest that puts you over-- so keep a buffer!!

Use it gently, remember it is not free money. Pay it off every month and you will build up your credit score.

Only use the card if you pay it off at the end of the pay cycle. Don't use it with the intensions of making minimum payments. That's the surefire easiest way to aquire debt.

go to the store....buy something for about $20 and use the card to pay for it.....wait till the bill comes.....pay the balance off.....get out some scissors and cut the card in half and never think of it again!!!!

If it is your first type of credit and you are trying to build credit, use it for something you can pay off when the statement comes.

For some reason credit bureau like to see certain types of activity.

Then make a medium purchase and pay it off in two payments, that is if you got the no interest for x amount of months deal.

Try to avoid paying interest at all cost.

Only use it IF you can settle the account in full at the end of every month. That way you will avoid unneccessary interest.
Use it as a stop gap until you get paid and not for buying things you fancy, cos it will soon get out of hand.

don't go crazy and blow off all your credit. YOu'll regret it. I regret it now. When I first got my first card I went crazy swipping my credit card. After i maxed out my first card I applied for another one and so forth. Now, I am in debt with 5 credit cards. My advise is to use if for EMERGENCIES ONLY.
