I took out a $5,000 unsecured loan and only needed $2,000 of it..?
can you pay these off early.. i would like to make a 3,000 dollar payment as my first.. is this cool.. if so will the interest be charged on the whole thing regardless.. thx for your help

AZ123
you have to check the terms of the loan. there might be a penalty for early pre-payment. if so, it's probably better than the interest if you really don't need the money.

Pay the $3000 back and save yourself a ton of interest. Interest is charged on the unpaid balance.

It sounds like you already know the answer. You only needed 2000. Put back what you don't need and don't put yourself in a bad situation. There is a pre-payment penalty for full repayment within a short period. The 3000 does not meet this criteria. Return it and get out of a high interest unsecured loan as soon as possible.

interest will be charged on the whole thing, UNTIL you make that large payment, and then interest will only accrue on the unpaid balance.

Yes, pay it back immediately! No, the interest won't be charged on the whole thing only on the balance every month. Pay off at least the minimum monthly balance every month and you should be good to go.

check the terms of your loan

Jenyfer C
It all depends on the terms of your loan. You need to contact the lending institution to find out for sure.

Ummmm, that'll be $3000 for the advice. (I KNOW YOU HAVE IT!) Ha!!!

Gabrielle S
The best thing to do is refinance your loan with the $3.000 and you won't have to pay as much interest in the end.
If you just made a payment of 3 thousand on your loan, the total amount of your loan is still going to be the same, but if you refinance, putting 3 thousand down, you won't owe as much. It could save you hundreds of dollars.

You hould save that money and make your payments on time....not all at once...this way your credit will be great afterwards! If looks really good when you take out a loan and pay on time..
I did this and took all the money and used it to pay back my loan....of course I paid more that I borrowed but it was worth it when my credit score went up....
