Usually most banks will increase your line without asking once you've established that you can be responsible with your card. If you make all your payments on time, this will usually happen. I got my first one about a year ago and they have already increased my line twice- I started at 1,000 and it's now 4,000. I've paid all my bills on time and I usually make payments bigger than the minimum to pay off the whole balance after a couple months. Starting at 500 is a good thing- for both you and the bank. Credit card debt in America is a huge problem, and this protects you both. You cant rack up your debt until it's impossible to pay off, and they won't lose money. Start out slow and learn to be responsible and you'll eventually get what you want.

Remember- you're probably young since this is your first card. You may not care about your credit now, but if you rack up a credit card and then in a few years want to get married or buy a house or car, they look at your credit card and count that money against you, and your credit report also. so if you go to get a loan for a house, they will see any debt you have and subtract that from what you make a month, lowering the amount you will get approved for. So don't even make one mistake now, or it will end up biting you in the @$$

You need a credit history. I caution you though. You probably should let the limit remain low. That will help keep you from overspending. I have great credit, and I hate credit cards. So many people ruin their credit when they are young, and they lose the ability to make major purchases like homes. Never spend more on your credit card than you can afford to pay in a month, otherwise you pay finance charges which is essentially a fee to use your own money. Get a debit card!

If you have no credit or crappy credit, $500 isn't so bad. What you should be worried about is your interest rate, not your limit. Even with only $500, a high rate will make it a total pain.

And no, the other credit cards will not give you a limit like that. Hell, not even with acceptable credit. And the fact that you seem impatient about not having that high of a limit, is the exact reason why they won't give you one. You don't appear to be responsible enough to deserve that amount of trust to them.

That's why you've got to spend a while (a few years) building up your credit, making payments, and paying things off on time. Once they see that you have a solid record of responsibility with credit, then they'll consider offering more to you.

Keep your limits low, you dont want to be in debt, always pay in cash. and realize if you have a 10,000 limit, you need to pay that back, can tou really afford it? moral credit cards are bad news..only use them in emergencys!!!!!!

Nope you don't. Just keep it where it is at and just use it for simple things. Save your money for the big stuff or get a loan through a bank as the interest rates are MUCH better than a credit card. Credit card bad, green cash good. lol XD good luck

you can ask to get a higher limit after 6 months and you have been in good standing and no late fees. but not $10K, you will probably be given an additional $500.
But eventually this helps build up for the near future.
