Collateral means assets.
So, a paid for car, equity in your home, maybe a real large jewelry collection, stock account, something like that. |

Don't go with consolidation, you will end up paying 30% more then you actually owe on credit cards. They are just going to take your money and disburse it to make the minimum payments, if its a loan to pay them off and you pay off the loan with them they are going to ask for your house, or you vehicle as collateral. Suddenly those unsecure credit cards are now secured with a vehicle or house, and they would be able to take it away from you if you default on the loan. If you are current on your payments, you would be better off paying ten dollars more then the minimum payments to get the principle down. |

Collateral means something worth at least the value of the loan that the bank can take if you don't pay. |
