With U.S. credit card debt at an all time high, many savvy consumers and investors are renewing their commitments to rid themselves of this burdensome and in most cases, unnecessary debt. In doing so they are constantly searching for the next best credit card with higher credit limits, lower annual percentage rates (APRs), and zero balance transfer offers. In fact switching credit cards has become as common as changing the battery in the fire alarm for some people and it has actually worked. So if you are amongst the thousands of Americans who are thinking of making a switch to improve your financial picture, before you do there are a few things that you should consider. They include how multiple inquiries for credit will affect your credit score and if the APR that applies to balance transfers after the introductory grace period still makes it a good deal.

Don't do it. Those credit cards target new users.
They lure them in with low interest and then..
wham!, they slap on the interest and you are paying for the rest of your live. Plus some credit card companies apply interest to a zero balance. They just take your last reported balance and then slap on the interest. By the time you finish fighting it, the balance is high and they are slow to take
it off. If you must have a card then get a debit
card. There is no interest and you determine the
balance on the card. It is safer than a credit card. |

Look for a card with a low interest rate and no annual fee. |

Be sure to check all the fees. They can be crazy. Like just to open it, there's a yearly fee of anywhere from 50 to 150, then there's an application fee of 25, or an annual fee of 30, etc. before you know it, you get a card and owe them 200 and haven't even gotten anything! Read all the fees! I found out the hard way. Got a card that started out at 250, but with all the fees, I owed them 200 right off the bat. |

Low APR & cash rewards, no annual fee. |

You should look at the interest rate, annual fees and charges to your account if your payment is late or if you go over your limit. Some companies, who I will not name, (Capital One. Shhh!) charges a $50.00 over the limit fee even if they are the one putting you over the limit with minor service charges. Shop around before you apply. |

Interest rate and make sure there are no annual fees to pay.
Before signing up for the first low-rate offer that comes your way, shop around. Maybe that great rate only lasts six months or the annual fee eats up any savings you could enjoy from the low introductory rate. Do a little comparison shopping and you might find a card with the same rate for at least a year or another card with the same deal but no annual fee. |

This depends on your credit rating. If your credit is not good your going to have to take what you can get to earn a better card. if you have good credit....I would say Interest Rate, Interest Rate, Interest Rate....Introductory Offers are good with a 0% but look to see what it will increase to after. I have two or three cards that gave me 0% for over 12 months than increased to 8.99% for the life. Those are the cards you want |

You APR if it's more then 16% tell them no tanks. Also for your percent on the items u buy. like it should not be more then 8%. Hope it help. But if you could don't max out buy something small and pay it off fast. Don't get into dept with any card they not a good move. |

Start with your expected use of the card
If you need only for an emergency situation, then you really don't care as much about rates as you do about annual fees. But, if you plan on using it a lot, then rates will be more important than the annual fee.
Once you determine your expected use, compare overall costs for your expected usage and pick the one that appears will be least costly, but remain flexible enough for your use |

Interest rate, annual and any other fees. Also, if you are using this credit card to help boost your credit score, there are a few things to know. There are some creditors that don't report to the 3 credit bureaus...until your late. So you could be paying on time for a long time and then miss one payment and your credit report won't show all the positive stuff...just the negative. Also, creditors generally submit your account status on the third Thursday of the month (because they have to have it in by the 1st of every month at midnight). So if you are late and don't want a second month to be reported, try to get your payment in before the third Thursday.
Lastly, never spend more than 35% of your credit limit. If you find that you need to go over this amount, remember the 3rd Thursday rule and try to make a payment to bring the balance down to 35% before it reports. Lenders like to see that you have credit history, but not that you aren't responsible with the credit that you do have. |
