Wow, lots of responders here seem to be afraid of credit. In many cases, There are huge benefits to using either a store line of credit or a bank credit card.

Stores routinely offer 0% financing or on the order of 10% cash back. A fundamental rule of economics implies that a year of no-interest is like getting about 3% off your purchase price, because you're paying with future (inflated) dollars.

I recently purchased a cheap plasma TV at sears and for the trouble of filling out the credit application I got 10% off the purchase price and an additional $15. It's then just a matter of sending in the same cash you would have paid a few weeks later.

Secondly, decent credit cards from a reputable bank offer several important benefits to consumers for big purchases -- price protection, free extended warranties, and leverage against the retailer if something goes wrong.

Do not ever get a store credit card.

Rule of thumb.

Get a common credit card, visa, american express, mastercard.

You should save up and pay cash.

Credit cards are good for one thing. Getting into debt with.
Credit cards are the financial worlds cigarette and "Building credit" is the biggest joke of the 21st century.

If you pay as you go. If you live on less money than you make. You will not have payments! You will have money and not have to worship the great fico.

If you can get a 0 interest card from Best Buy, go for that. Be sure to pay it off at least a month before the offer expiration just to make sure you don't get hit with all the accumulated interest. This will give you a good payment history and your credit should be good enough to qualify for a regular major credit card at a decent rate.

If you have to pay interest, don't charge a TV. Get a regular major credit card, use it, and pay it in full every month.

The Best Buy Mastercard is actually a pretty good credit card. It's probably about as good as a credit card you can get from a bank.

Just make sure you pay off you balance every month and it will help your credit build up.

Get the best buy card.
If you wait, they offer zero percent interest as promos quite often!
You will pay NO interest!
This will definately build your credit.
Then, after you pay it down, you can apply for a VISA or some other card.

Credit cards are better than store cards because you can use them anywhere else. It depends on the kinds of incentives you get. Store cards like Best Buy allow you to have no interest and no payments for 12 months and things like that. Your credit card might allow you to carry a balance for no interest charge either.

To build credit, credit cards are better than store cards because you can use them many places to buy petrol and groceries. The terms of financing tend to be more attractive for store cards.

*WAS due 11/29... He's here!
Honestly, neither. Buy getting a credit card to make the purchase, you will be paying interest and in the long run, even though you may build your credit score (which realistically, to build it, takes a LONG time) you will pay MORE for the tv in the long run... it's just NOT worth it.

Sand Bag
To build credit faster, you are better off getting a credit card from your bank. If they won't give you one, get a secured credit card from your bank. Just remember to pay your bill on time.

Whatever one gives you the best deal. If you get it for 24 months and pay it back in 12, that would help boost your credit rating.
