I was wondering if anyone can help regarding a debt i have?
This debt is my only one, but the problem is the interest they charge, as it's really high, so basically whatever i pay pretty much goes to the interest, so it will take me forever to pay it off. I have asked the card company to help me but they wont. Please help, i would love some advice

You're lucky that your debt is to a credit card company, because all you need to do is transfer your debt to a new card offering an introductory 0% offer. Do this and you can concentrate on paying off your debt without it getting any larger.

Depending how long you will take to pay it all off, you may get away with only one transfer, but if you are going to take longer, you may have to do it several times. You need to be really on the ball for this as you have to time it right to do it just before your special rate runs out.

When you transfer your balance, make sure you never use the new card for any spending, you are likely to lose any benefit you gained if you do this. Also (obviously) stop using credit cards for buying things until your debt is paid off.

Once you have transferred to a new card, pay as much as you can off your balance each month, preferably with an automatic payment so you don't miss any.

Good luck

You need to get an interest free credit card to pay off your original debt. There are loads available. Try looking on moneysavingexpert.com, it is a brilliant site.

If your credit card was taken out before 1 April 2007 you may not have to pay it back at all because thy may not be able to legally enforce it.
Get help at www.bdebtfree.info and save yourself some money.

When did you take it out?
I cannot understand how they are still allowed to charge such high rates when base rate is 1.5%!!!!

Yes, 1.5% and what are they still charging. Some of them still 23.5% or more. It is outrageous.
If your card was taken out before April 2007 then you may be able to use a legal looophole to have it wiped clean.

This is worth looking at. This is not a scam. The banks have messed up and not fully complied with the CC Act 1974 and the claims that are being made under this loophole show that this is going to be bigger than the unfair bank charges.

Another reason why the banks are panicking.
They have had this coming for a long time.

you need to pay far more than the minimum payment...if you really cant do this, get back to them and tell them you can't poay...they'll have to sort something out.

stephenweinstein
Either

a) Pay more. The same amount will go to interest. The additional amount will not. You will eventually pay off the debt.

b) Somehow (such as by borrowing from another company), get enough money to pay off the entire debt at once.

I am not fully qualified here..........but know a little about being in debt !!!
I take it you can only afford the minimum payment each month ?
Of course.......as long as you are making regular payments the creditor is quite content.

If you are struggling to make this regular payment......then talk to the creditor at length.......write to them......or seek independent free debt advice.
Please dont borrow more from elsewhere to repay.

The card company SHOULD help if you are struggling with monthly repayments.
Good luck.

If it's a credit card, just do a credit transfer. Virgin offer a brilliant 16 month interest free deal at the moment

Goto www.consumeractiongroup.com/forums and you can post your problem there you will get lots of help as I have had from there

duffy72
Did the company not show you their interest rate when you joined up?

That is why they are unwilling to help. You went into the agreement confirming you knew that the rate was this high - just keep paying I say.
