IF I was taken to the hospital while I was in High School but 18 years old. Who is responsible for the bill?
I have a collection from that time. Can the collection agency ruin my credit for that? Whos resposable for the bill, me or my parents?

18 years old in most every State is legally considered an adult - you create a financial obligation it is incumbent upon you to repay; you commit a crime you do adult time; etc...

Are you asking on Morale grounds or legal grounds?

Legally speaking, they can go after you, since you were a consenting adult at the time.

Since you are young enough, I would suggest calling the hospital, and explaining the situation to them. I have had some hospitals drop the bill by 90%!! Others will take $30 a month, and never report it to a collection agency.

It may not seem fair, but it's better to learn early that you just need to take care of yourself.

Good Luck!

if youre 18 generally youre responsible, unless youre still filed as a dependant on your parents-which can go up to age 21, i believe.

If you're a full time student, you should be covered by your parents' insurance (if you enrolled).

Legally you are.. how did they get your social security number? its will show up as a collection until paid for like 5 - 7 years.. It won't destroy it but financial institutions no longer just ignore medical bills on credit reports like they use to.

if u are 18 it will go on your credit. and ask your parents can help u pay for it..

Technically you as a legal adult of 18. Did you not have some type of insurance. At 18 do not concern yourself with credit ratings. When you get a job do things in cash and avoid debt at all costs anyway. unless you are just a poor slob that never pays a thing, all credit rating do is justify banks and credit cards charging you higher fees. That why I only use my credit union which is cheaper than typical bank rates.

If you're still living at home and under the supervision of your parents, it's your parents. Even though you are 18, if you are still in high school your parents are still legally responsible for you.
