IS it safe to use my bank debit card on ebay?
.

Yes is the short answer.

I would not simply email a seller my card number though. Most people selling use Paypal as their main means of receiving payments, and if you open a Paypal account, you can select your debit card as the primary payment method, and then use that on Ebay very safely.

Many people do take checks and money orders too, but that can be a hassle for you and delay your shipment, so for most of us, Paypal is the easiest way to go.

Do make sure you check the feedback on a seller you wish to deal with, and stay away from anyone with a rating below 97%, or anyone with zero feedback, as you're more likely to get scammed.

Paypal and Ebay offer minimal protection against scams, so you can sometimes get reimbursed if you get scammed, but that's a hassle, and can take a while.

It's actually safer to use a credit card, cos if you have any problems when you use a debit card, you are using your own money, with a credir card it's the card companies and they will get the money back faster for you.

Should be as long as you have a paypal account. Don't do it unless you do.

Yes, it's secure through PayPal.

Stick to using paypal and don't ever give it out to anyone directly in a transaction. If the seller asks for your credit card number DO NOT give it and report him/her to ebay.

Antonia
through a paypal account yes

yes, I do it. PayPal is safe

moocow901
It certainly is....provided you have a secure internet connection. Make sure, if you are using WIFI that it has a good WEP key (security code) and that it is a secure connection.!

only and i said only if you have already spent the $5.00 for the paypal security key, this changes your past word every 30 seconds, if not your paypal account can be hacked very easily, once a hacker has entered your account he has complete access and can change your e-mail so you won't have e-mail notification of any paypal activity and he can change your mailing address to his. so he can have any and all items shipped to his address. spend the $5.00 for the security or don't open up an account

Use a credit card, more protection, your transaction will be with the credit card company.

Ted
No. Credit cards have the protection of credit dispute resolution rules that debit cards do not.

It is 9.9 times out of ten. I've been and ebay user for 4 years and never had a problem.

I always try to use sellers with 100% rating. One transaction I did, and I found out someone had hacked into the seller's account.

According to paypal, I would have better results going through my credit card company to dispute. If I had done the transaction through my debit card, I would have a more difficult time disputing as it was considered a "cash transaction".
