If you add somebody to your credit card, you are lending them YOUR money.
Any debts they run up are down to you.
You will end up paying their debts.

No but since your the main cardholder, you should becareful of the usage from the secondary holder, since you're the one with the good standing credit. You don't want that person to screw yours up! They're using your credit, don't forget that! |

If they are asking to be a secondary on your credit card, then I suspect they can't get one on their own. There's a reason for that. Do not put someone else on your card. Not friend, boyfriend or family. You will change the relationship. It always happens when money is involved. It will cause tension. It will cause problems. Also, if they don't pay then you will. |

I've seen far too many people on the TV court shows saying, "But I trusted him!" Please don't. Listen to the good people who responded before me. You don't want to be responsible for someone who doesn't care, and his bad credit shows that he doesn't care. |

I wouldn't trust someone with bad credit to use my credit card. But just adding them won't hurt your credit. It's if they abuse your credit card and you don't make the payments for them, that will hurt you. So make sure you always make on time payments, even if the authorized user runs up your bill. Then you'll be safe. You'll actually help their credit score in the long run if you pay your bill on time. |
