1. refund the money back onto the card you brought it with (no cash)
2. exchange it for something else.

Retailers are not banks and they have gotten hip to some customers' desires to monetize their credit.
As a result, retailers issue refunds in the tender of the original transaction. If you paid by gift card, you get gift card credit back. If you paid by credit, you get a credit back to the original credit card used. If you paid by cash, you get cash back. |

No, they always credit the charge back to your credit card. If you don't have your credit card then a lot of the time they will give you store credit. I have never heard of where you pay for something with a credit card and they give you cash back. |

If you did buy an item with your card or cash then you are not ENTITLED to a refund UNLESS you can prove it FAULTY, however many stores do allow a swap as a good will gesture.
If it is faulty then a refund is fine, money for money, card refund for card usage. |
