Checking your credit has not effect on your score. In fact, you should check your credit at least once a year or more. Identity theft often happens to people who don't check their credit often. You are smart by wanting to check your credit. I have found an excellent website that explains credit and identity theft in simple terms. You can check it out at http://www.your-credit-score.com . |

If you check your credit score through one of the bureaus yourself, it is called a soft inquiry and will not affect your score what so ever. However, if you apply for a few credit cards and they run your credit, it will affect your score negatively somewhat. For mortgages and automobiles, there is de dupe logic where any inquiries made within a 14 day period will be counted as one inquiry. For example, you are shopping for a car and go to several dealerships and each dealership runs your credit during a 14 day period....although its several inquiries, it will only be counted as one inquiry and will impact your score by a few points (3 to 10 respectively). These inquiries are called hard inquiries. |

No.. thats a myth,
Checking you own credit is a "soft" pull which has no effect on your score at all.
When a lender runs a credit check its considered a "hard
pull normally. Which may or may not effect your score. If its does it will only be by a couple of points.
But you can check your own score as much as you want with no effect. |

No, checking your own credit file is a totally different procedure to a company thinking about giving you credit checking it!
The credit agencies themselves offer subscriptions, where you can check your report each month, and you advised to check it at least every 6 months to make sure that everything is correct, and to verify no one is taking out credit in your name (identity theft).
When your applying for credit, more than a couple of applications in the space of 6 months can lower your credit score. Because the result (whether your given credit or not) is not recorded always, it can look as if you are getting as much credit as possible, and to the lender it raises doubts as to whether or not you can pay it all back. |

yes, checking your credit score can lower your rating.
Inquiries usually have small impact. For most people, one additional credit inquiry will take less than five points off their FICO score. However, inquiries can have a greater impact if you have few accounts or a short credit history. Large numbers of inquiries also mean greater risk: People with six inquiries or more on their credit reports can be up to eight times more likely to declare bankruptcy than people with no inquiries on their reports. |
