If I just opened a bank account and I have like only $5 in it and I overdraft $3000 from an ATM, can I do that
If I just opened a bank account and I have like only $5 in it and I overdraft $3000, can I do that, and if I do how long do I have to pay it back before I go to jail?

Why are you even thinking that??? It knows what you have anyway and won't allow you to take it. Besides, many ATM's only allow up to $400 or so a day withdrawl.

Wow, you just open an account and already thinking about doing something that you might go to jail? The banks are not that stupid, there is a limit on how much you can withdraw from ATM. It sound like you open this account to do fraudulent activities.

With an overdraft fee of about 27%. That is helofa payback,
just to find out. You will not only ruin your credit rating, and
your insurance will go up as well. Not paying back 3 grand is
a felony. And you will never be able to leave the country, or
find a job. You'll never get in the service, but there is the "pen"

Expert Realtor
If you NEVER had $3,000 in it, I would expect a visit from the police at any given moment.

Banks will easily forgive a slip here and there, and you would have to DEPOSIT a bogus check for $3,000 before you would be allowed to withdraw it...and most ATM's will not allow you to pull more than $450.00 cash PER DAY from them

Sadie C
Most banks don't let you go beyond $500. Yes you would be responsible to pay that back cuz if you don't then you won't ever be able to open a bank account again and you will be reported to the credit bureau. Im not sure if you would go to jail cuz of the fact that they woun't be able to get money from you if you don't have any. They shouldn't allow you to have access to 500 dollars though especially if your not working and you don't have any money

DONT EVEN TRY IT!!!!!!!!!

You are making this up. There has to be money in an account and if all you have is five dollars, there is no way that you got 3,000 from a ATM,we all know there is a limit on the amount that you can withdraw at the ATM it's in the hundred's not the thousand's. Stupid.!!!!!

Some banks will give you an overdraft limit, but usually that's only up to $1000. Also, you should only be able to take $300 per day from an ATM. Unless you deposited a fraudulent check, you won't get arrested, but you will have to pay it back, and you will get big overdraft fees. But this all sounds like speculation anyways because it's impossible.

No you cant

DaMan
You can not overdraft $3000 from an ATM.

Reg CC outlines funds availability at ATM machines. At most you can overdraw $100 according to Reg CC. According to the law, the first $100 (or the total amount of the deposit if it is less than $100) of non-“next-day” checks deposited at an ATM must be made available the next day.

Thus, if you present a bad personal check for $3,000 for deposit at an ATM, the bank is required by federal law to give you $100 next-day availability on that $3,000 check.

The remaining $2,900 won't be available until day 2, 3, or 4 depending on the type of check it is and that bank's funds availability policy.

And don't worry, if you overdraw even a $100 so soon to opening an account, you can rest assured that they will shut your 'ish down in the near future.

Beach Girl
Banks usually have a $200 limit (per day) on any ATM withdrawal, regardless of how much money you have in the account. You can not withdraw $3000 from an account with only $5 in it. You might be able to get $200 but no more...and yes, you will owe the bank $295 plus the ATM fee within 2 days. If you don't pay them back, you'll get a visit from a sheriff at your home or work...and you'll have to go to court/jail.

No bank or ATM will allow that.
