If I pay off my car loan, can I get any of the negatives, removed from my credit report?
I was late a couple times on my car payment. If I pay off the whole amount, is there any way I can negotiate them removing any of the late payments from my credit report?

Sure, you can try to negotiate with them, but I doubt seriously it will do any good. There's a reason why those negatives are there, and why they probably will remain there for about 7 years - it goes to show credit worthiness. This is the grading system creditors rely on when on making credit granting decisions.

A credit bureau will not remove accurate negative information from your credit report before the legal time period has expired. Therefore, do not believe anyone who claims they can get negative information removed from your credit report faster than is legally required.

There are no "loopholes" or laws that credit repair companies can use to get correct information off your credit report.

No credit repair company can do anything you can't do for yourself. It is impossible for a third party to make changes in your file if the facts have been correctly reported. There are individuals and companies that claim they can fix a bad credit file. This is not the case. If a file includes accurate, yet negative information about your credit history, this information cannot be changed. Information will only be changed when your file contains an inaccuracy.

The only way to rectify a poor credit rating is to adopt sound credit practices for a period of time.

All you can do is call your creditor and ask.

The credit bureaus never remove negative information without the original creditors permission on open accounts. It is a violation of their contract.

They may remove one, but may not remove two....but all you can do is ask.

Nice try. No one can change accurate information.

no, but it will make your credit look better if you pay it off in full

No. What's in it for them if they say yes? You're already obligated to pay the loan. They'd actually rather you pay it in installments as opposed to all at once because they make more money.

Those late pays will become a very small deal once they've aged some. Just pay the loan off if you're capable, and be done with it.

mister ed
no and do not pay it off ahead of time if it will put you in such a bind that you miss a payment on some other debt you owe such as a credit card. you have to live with the late payments == just part of life == nobody said it was fair.

SPIFIMAN1
It's possible, but be sure to get it in writing before you pay them a dime or they will have no incentive to work with you.

This has nothing to do with credit repair like the first poster seems to think. The bureaus only report the information that is reported to them. They can not change anything only the lender doing the reporting can.
