Yes, the bank can legaly make you pay it back, and will do! They would say that you knew the money wasn't yours, so shouldn't have kept it.
Even if the cash machines go wrong, which does happen as you've seen, there is a long audit trail and they can see exactly how much you got (as in actual amount dispensed, rather than the amount you asked for).
I would go to the bank and give it back, as you`ll have to do it anyway. If you do it voluntarily, they may give you a small reward. |

Of course they can demand it back! It's their money!
If you keep it, you are guilty of theft, pure and simple! (And you can be charged as such, too)
I'm quite sure that you would feel you could "demand" your money if the machine had short-changed you, I'm not sure why you think this is any different!
There is a digital video recording of you taking the cash, by the way! All ATMs do that now. |

Unfortunately the truth is, they can make you pay it back. Computers make mistakes. You spotted it but you haven't owned up (except to us). You know you're not entitled to that money. Technically, it is theft, sorry.
The bank will know when they do their checks whose card it was that took the extra money. So expect a letter or a phone call in the next day or so. |

when they discover the machine has paid out too much, they will look into it. From the records they will know who took money out. So, yes, they may well come back and ask you for it.
there are some things in your favour, some against.
banks dont like to advertise when they make mistakes - in your favour.
you could claim you didnt notice - in your favour
you obviously noticed, you went back and had another go, woohoo lets rip off the bank - working against you
Make sure you have got to money to pay them back, but sit low and wai. if you havent heard anything within a month I'd say you got away with it. |

leave it a while.. see if they notice.. they can ask for it back though...
but i bet they don't give you a finders fee for your honesty..
my friends account was defrauded of late due to a banks stupidity... scary bit was his morgage was linked to that account...
and you know they'd be the first to moan about being overdrawn, but it was down to the bank in the first place. |

where is this cash machine ??????

By the sounds of this, the person who filled the cashpoint upo must have put £20 notes in the £10 drawer. Unless they can prove how much the machine pay to you, then there is nothing they can do to reclaim money.
Good on ya!!! Just think of all the bank charges they have made you pay!!!!!! Revenge is sweet!!! |

they probably can but its too much hassle for them - you wont have to pay it back. |
