Yes they have to do it under the Data Protection Act. This firm will be a registered data user and they risk having their rights to store data cancelled. |

Yes. They are obligated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
In fact, if you don't like something they wrote, you can file a dispute with the credit bureau. If the lender doesn't file an adequate response within 30 days, the item is automatically deleted. |

Get a copy of your credit file - dispute the error.
Additionally, send a letter the lender, referencing the error, back it up with all your documentation (Show where you paid them the correct amount and date), demand they remove the error. |

Yes you can insist. Write a letter to the credit bureaus, so they can make that part of the file, especially if the creditor continues to refuse removing the bad report. |

Yes. You need to send them a letter claiming the error and request removal of the inaccurate reporting, and if you have the proper evidence any negative reporting should be removed. |

Yes, they do.
It is a pain in the "****".
You have to get the creditor to send you a letter stating they have removed it. (you may have to write a letter to them requesting it)
Then you have to write (or go online for some items) each of the "Big Three" credit reporting agencies, and tell them that the item listed wrong and request them to remove it. They are required by law to contact the company that sent it in the 1st place & verify the accuracy. When they are unable to verify it (because the company that posted it removed it from their files) then it will be removed from your credit report.
I have included a couple of links that I think will help. |

Sure!... Do it in writing. |

Yes, you can change this. You can dispute this with the credit report company, they send something to the lender who has a certain amount of time to respond and fix this problem. If they don't fix this you can send a letter to the credit report companies with proof of your payment history (make copies etc) and CC the lender. That should do it. It's a pain in the rump to fix these sort of things but it's really worth it.
Good luck. |

Just order a credit report from one of the credit bureaus. At the end of the report is a form to dispute entries. |

It's incorrect and derogatory, i.e. libellous. Note though that the *lender* must do the correction: the credit reference agencies will not correct errors. |

Do the request in writing and keep a copy of the letter. If the letter fails, call and speak to a representative. If the rep does nothing, speak to a supervisor. If that fails, look up the number of the corporate office and request to speak to the president or chairman [whoever is at the top] , settle for an assistant. If that fails, take legal action, because their error has done harm to you. Make sure it is completely erased. |

Insist, hell, demand. They MUST correct any mistakes made in your credit file. If they do not, they can be held liable for any negative consequences (higher loan interest rates, etc)
Do it in writing, by registered mail. |

You can go the local credit bureau and file what is known as a consumer dispute. This dispute is then forwarded by the credit bureau to the lender. They then have 30 days to correct it or the credit bureau will remove it from your credit.
Good luck. |
