what happens is the people offering credit check with the credit agencies, what happens is the account becomes flagged. You see what they say is you have married a person with bad credit and that you may follow suit. If you have previous excellent history then they may trust you depending on the amount to test you. So no it does not give you instant bad credit but it just makes them be more cautious.
Look at it this way if a person marries someone with good credit do they now get good credit too!! |

You should absolutely make this a condition of marriage. The number one stressor on marriage is money. He has to get his financial life in order before you become part of it, or trust me, you are in for a world of pain.
My issue--and I'm hardly financially perfect by any stretch of the imagination--is that this isn't one mistake. This is a longstanding pattern of debt creation and unwillingness to bother with fixing it. No matter how much I loved someone, I would be very leery of marrying them when there are this many issues hanging over their head. |

No, your credit will not be ruined. You better be very very very careful because he could ruin your credit too!! Do not co-sign for anything with this person. Keep your name off of joint accounts. If you guys have joint accounts and split up, it could be a disaster for you. He doesn't care about HIS credit, he won't care about yours. |

Did that, but I didn't change my name to his. I cared for the bills and his credit is getting better by leaps and bounds. It takes years of paying on time for credit history to improve. |

Yes depends if you in a cummunity state, when applying for a home loan, they will have to use his income but may or may not use his negative credit information.
ONE important note: When filing joint tax's, file a injured spouse Form 8379 (Rev. December 2007). That doesn't mean your injured but his dept has injured your tax return. If he has a federal loan, dept or credit card and owes them past due, it may take a few years but they will start collecting tax returns, rebates and income form pay checks, if you own a business they coud possible collect both profits if it's under his and your name. |

it can be, dont let him get into your credit. Have separate accounts till he is debt free.
Have him get counseling first from God and work his way out of debt. I met the happiest woman ever, she works 2 jobs and stays focused on Jesus. Her husband died, and he was in debt when she married him, now she has 35,000 to pay off. If he wont pay off his debt, pray about a legal separation, yet as long as he is not abusive live together in harmony.
