If i have a check card with my bank but i do not have funds in the account can i still use the check card?

Only if you have overdraft protection. Otherwise you will get the same penalty as overdrawing with a check assuming that it is not rejected at the terminal.

The old story: How can I be overdrawn? I still have checks in my checkbook.

Use your card as credit. Make sure if you do that you get the money in there before the fees hit the bank to avoid bounce charges.

You might want o check with your bank on that one. My bank gives me $600 over, but every transaction costs me like $28 on top of the negative balance. I would only recommend doing it in a pinch. Also, you might be ahead to read the Terms and Conditions contract you signed when you opened your account.

You need a credit card or a credit account for that.

Floyd B
Sure.
But I wouldn't.
Be prepared to pay allot of over draft fees.

StarShine G
No . you need money in your account.
if you are depositing money then yes..

miss_cold_toes_is_emotional
Nope.

Red
Yes if you want to be fined for using insufficient funds. A lot of times the bank will stop you if you try to use the ATM but if you use it at the store it might go through depending on how fast they can track it but you will pay later, whether it is by your own free choice or through the court system because that is considered to be theft.

I agree with KM, but if you do not have overdraft protection it will usually cost more than it's worth. Do the math: if you have $20 in your account and charge $30 your balance goes to 20-30=-10-30insufficent funds charge=-40-30 where you used the card=-70. As you can see it dosen't work very well. The $10 you overcharged can cost you $70 to straighten out.

estee_1998
No, but if you have overdraft protection you can but you will be charged overdraft fees.
