You can either find a place that doesn't check your credit or you should be willing to put a large down payment on the rental. They must be paid too and this is how they can somewhat ensure that. Unfortunately, those are real consequenses of giving your most valuable credit report a bad reputation.

Many places will charge an additional deposit fee. You can call the apartment offices to see what their policies are regarding credit.

It depends on the property and its location. I would contact an apartment locator and tell them you problem and they will work to find you a place. Good luck

Yes, it is possible to be able to rent an apt. You might have to double your deposit and/or have someone co-sign for you. Apartment hunting is hard enough, bad credit just makes it harder. Good luck!

bad credit is something we all most certainly end up with sooner or later. Not due to our laziness to pay our bills but for other reasons such as lack of funds.. Most major apt buildings will check credit ratings before you can rent from them. Some will not want to take the chance that you will not pay the rent. One way to get a landlord to rent you a place is to arrange so that your rent comes straight out of your bank account ensuring that they will get their rent on time. Another thing is that you may not be able to get into that plush downtown apt that is so cool to live in but would be able to get into one out in the suburbs that might be nice but not so easily accessed from all the cool spots in town. Just because you have bad credit shouldn't stop you from trying to get the apt you want. If you get turned down just keep on trying others but remember everytime someone runs a credit report it will show up and to many runs on it will change your credit score for the worse.

Nowadays ALL places check your credit. Anyplace that advertises that they don't check your credit is committing false advertising.
Most often when these places check your credit they are checking to see if you owe unpaid rent to any other places that you have lived.
Also places that turn a blind eye to your credit situation is usually not a good place to live because they will move anyone in.
Usually if you can get someone - with good credit - to co-sign with you that usually helps get your foot in the door. BUT not everyone is so quick to co-sign with or for anyone for fear of being screwed over and stuck paying unpaid rent.

Have you tried applying to many places and found out that they would not accept you?

slumlords may still like you.
try going to consumer credit counselors or dept of social services or local county homeless prevention.
maybe you need to rent a room until you can do it better> get caught up. handle the health issues ,or be more responsible, which ever it is.
