If i were to break my lease for my apartment would it affect my credit and/or my mother who co-signed?
first off i do care about my credit and my mothers that is exactly why im asking the question in stead of just doing it.

I moved into an apartment in august with my new husband. we have lived there for about 3 1/2 months and I have recently received many medical bills from a surgery I had before the wedding. This in addition to other bills are making us living in an apartment that is so expensive very hard.

So I am wondering if I could talk to my leasing office about breaking my lease which will most likely require some kind of fee to get out of it which is fine. I just don't want to pay a fine to get out and it still do something to my credit and my mothers. If that is the case we will just have to push through it until next year.

If you talk to them, and they agree, it will not affect your credit. They may not let you use them as a reference for your next rental though. The only way it would affect your credit is if you did a "midnight move". Unless they agree to break the lease, you and your mother are still legally obligated to finish payments on the lease, whether you are occupying the apartment or not. Good luck, hope this helps!

As long as you pay all fee's you agreed to when signing the lease and pay the termination fee, you will be fine.

You are not breaking the terms of the lease... all leases have a clause for the renter to get out...usually consisting of 30 days notice and 1 months rent... usually your deposit will be refunded.

YOU MUST PAY THE LAST MONTHS RENT!!!

So if you gave notice today, you could be out by Dec 7, and would be responsible for rent through Jan 7.

Read your lease for the exact terms of the contract you signed... but as long as you meet all the termination terms, you will be fine.

As long as you pay the fee to break the lease, you'll be fine and it won't be reported to the credit bureaus. If you leave without notice and do not pay their fee then it would eventually be reported for default.

As long as you make agrangment with the leasing company it should affect your credit. you usually pay a fee and go on your way. just read the fine print on the paper so they cant get money from you in the future. Dont leave them high and dry because then it will drag down your credit and possibly keep you from renting at other places

you will have to pay for the rest of the lease in order to get out of it. Or you have to prove you are moving a certain amount
of miles for work to break it.

Michael K
Your best option is to talk to your lease company and explain to them your situation. Most people are nice and are willing to work with you. They probably will recommend that you find them a new tenant to take your place and possible pay a fee for canceling the contract (or maybe not it depends). Good luck.

Samantha
some places will tell you that if you break your lease you are responsible for the rent when you move out until someone else moves in. Other places just take your security. Should not affect your credit though

Gone fishin'
If you make a deal with the leasing office and pay it then you will be off the hook otherwise you can try to sub-let the apartment but you and your mother will still be on the hook for the rent if the sub-let defaults.

Only if you don't fulfill the financial obligations of the lease.
