rmcgeelsu | If my dad co-signs on my auto loan (refi), will the debt show up on his credit? |
If it does, when can I drop him as a co-signer? Trying to get my auto loan interest rate from 18% to under 10%. Will this hurt his credit??? |

Auto finance is what I do for a living and yes it will show on your dads credit.
It will either be listed with a "J" for joint or a "C" for co-sign under the lenders name on the left side of your credit reports, no one will know who is the primary signer and who is the secondary signer.
As far as getting his name off, you will have to refinance again without him to do that.
Both of your credit reports will either be better or worse depending on how the loan is paid back. |

Yes it will show up on both credit reports. If you pay late or default, your father gets his credit dinged. |

Yes. The loan will also show up on your dad's credit report. The only time you'll be able to drop him off the auto loan, would be when you're able to establish your own credit and refinance the auto loan without your dad's signature. |

Yes, it will show up on his credit report. It will only hurt his credit score if you are late making the payments or do not pay off the loan as agreed. |

It will report on his credit... The negative effect on his will be slight( as long as the payments are made on time). His FICO score will lower if he has other auto loans due to the fact that this is a new loan without a track record. After 6 months of paying on time, his score should spike up ... |

It depends on the policy of the lender, some will place a note on his file stating he is co-signing for debt.
It shouldn't hurt his credit, it's just there so other lender's know what his liabilities might be in the future. |

Yes. Just make your payments....no worries |

The Co-Signer has just as much responsibility on the loan. So it will show up on both of your credit reports. His report may take a short hit because it is a new line of credit. However, if you are never late on any payment in the long run it won't harm his report.
Once he is a co-signer the only way you can drop him is to have the loan paid off. Either by paying the balance due or refinancing again without him. |

If your Dad co-signs on an auto loan for you, yes, this becomes part of his debt load when a credit check is done. You can drop him as a co-signer depending on your financial institution, once you turn a certain age and have a full time job for their (financial institution) required amount of time, ie: 6 mos, 1year on the job. |

Yeppers. I'm a co-signer and the people I've co-signed for are over three months late. I'm being hit hard b/c of this. I'm going to pay the back payments, take the car away from them, sell it at a much lower price, then pay the remaining loan in low monthly payments.
I hope you make your payments on time b/c your dad will be pissed if you don't. |
