If you did not apply for a credit card and received a card can you send the card back to the company?

One of the identity scams going around is people who steal your mail. They find an application for a credit card and mail it in, then keep an eye on your mail. When it arrives, they take it, activate it and use it. You will never know until you start getting bills.

That's why you need to tear up any applications you get, don't just toss them in the trash.

That said, are you certain that the card is real or a cleaver advertising gimmick? New cards will have a magnetic strip on the back, plus should have a sticker telling you how to activate your card. If you think it's real, immediately contact the credit card company and inform them.

Then start the identity theft investigation process. Go to the link below and read up. There are several things you need to do.

Yes, you can.

You should not be receiving a card for which you did not apply. It might not be a real card but rather a promotional mailing to the effect that you are pre-approved or some such thing. At the very least, if you are not sure if it is just a promotional mailing, which should be pretty obvious, call up the credit card and find out. Something else might be going on that you do not know about.

you should shred the card first, then call the company and find out who applied for it and cancel it, then you should check your credit report to see if someone is using your credit.

if you rec'd a card you did not order, you might be a victim of identify theft. Get your credit report immediately and advise your current banks and creditors.

Make sure you cut it in half first. If it were to be stolen you could be liable.

call them and cancel the account, cut the card up in pieces, discard. Be sure to request a confirmation letter of cancelation via mail

Make sure you have really received a credit card. Some companies send out a card with their "pre approved" letter making you think you already have the card.

Real credit cards come in envelopes with the card in tri fold paper and usually have to be "activated" before you can use them.

Did you actually receive a card or is it one of those plastic fake ones that are attached to a form to fill out. If you did receive an actual card I would definetly contact the company and ask why they sent it to you. Could be identity theft.

Just dont activate it and cut it up and throw it out. I signed up for them not to send me credit card offers at www.optoutscreen.com, because I was sick all of the mail I was getting all the time.
