It shows up for 7 years, but you can start rebuilnding immediately. You may be paying 25% intrest on a cc, but it's worth it to start over. I went thru this and I charged one tank of gas a month on the card and paid it in full each month. That was 4 years ago and my credit score is higher that alot of my friends.

A lot of these statements are wrong again. Depending on what type of Bankruptcy you file, it can stay on your report for up to 10 (not 7) years.

Your credit in your file wont be hurt upon getting married if you request that you don't have a JOINT credit report. You must do this in writting to each of the reporting agencies.

One thing to remember people is that the top 3 are merely the TOP 3, not EVERY reporting agency that exists. There are more consumer reporting agencies out there. For a list you can go to the credit info center's listing: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/creditreports/OtherCreditBureaus.shtml.

Now, any time you try to get a major loan with your boyfriend/husband, they will look at his bankruptcy and that will hurt your interest rates/chances to get a loan. If you have VERY good credit, then it will pretty much offset that, especially if you make more money than he does!

Your score is independant from his. So marrying him will not change it. It will take him up to 10 years (9 from now) to get that thing deleted. This means YOU will likely be financing a lot of the stuff for your family-- so be careful not to do too much if you're unsure, becuause THAT is generally what screws you up.

Don't let him add you to any of his CC"s or what not, as this can mean his payment history is added onto your report. Keep your accounts seperate and you'll be fine. Just dont go all finance crazy. Make sure he learned from his mistake! ANd be very open and honest about finances and bills, so everything is clear. If he tries to hide things or not talk about it at all, that's not good-- becuase he's proved he can wreck his credit.

Things usually run off of your credit report in 7 years.

Marriage will not affect your credit score unless you have a joint account (credit card, mortgage, car loan, etc.) and it is not paid on time.

bluebellezza
Marriage may not affect YOUR PERSONAL CREDIT but it WILL affect your ability as a couple to buy a house, or a car, or rent an apartment. ALL lenders look at both buyers, and my company does NOT do business at all with people with unsettled bankruptcies or a history of collections, charge-offs etc.

my husband filed bankrupcy right b4 we got married and it hasnt effected me at all. i was still able to get a new car. furniture and all that. just make sure he pays his future bills on time and you will be ok

notaclue
This won't effect your credit! He's Joe Blow SS# ******** and your Suzy Whatever SS#**********! Your credit is yours and his is his! The only problem you're going to encounter is on a joint financial venture like buying a home, Otherwise, they can't hold you responsible for his actions when you're not even married!

Keep your purchases separate and you'll be fine. No joint credit cards. No joint checking accounts. The only time this will affect you is when you buy a car or buy a house.

MDHanner
You're credit will be fine. It might dip temporarily due to the name change. His credit will be hurting for 10 years but not debilitating. He need to build some new good credit (highly recommend secure credit cards) right away. You can get approved for a mortgage, car loan, etc... 1 day out of bk, but you'll pay. Any major purposes, I would recommend using your credit and going stated

Your credit won't be impacted by his bankruptcy... But if the two of you try to borrow money to buy a house his bad credit rating will hit you both...

If you have any joint credit cards in both names, make sure at least those bills are always paid on time...

Well when u file for bankruptcy it usually takes about 7 yrs to clear from your record.. You should really only file for bankrupt when your like seriously in debt like when u owe over $50,000 or so. Basicly when ur cought unisured and get into an accident, And the worse part is once u get married his credit is ur credit... U might want to keep ur last name for the 1st few yrs..GOOD LUCK
