The collection agency has bought the debt, and the only way to pay it off is through them, remember demand a written statement from them that if you pay it off they will remove it from your credit history, or it will remain there for 7 years.

you have to go throught the collection agency. They own the debt usually.

Actually, it depends upon how far the transfer has gone. You might be able to pay on your account to actual company, if they have transferred to their in house collection arm, or have not sold the debt to a collection company. There are so very many types of agreements that collection companies have with their clients.

First thing to remember is to contact your cc company first and see what they say. Either way you make a payment, it has to be credited to your account. Also, remember that a collection company "can't eat ya'" LOL. Talk to them in a civil manner and don't take any guff from them. Remember in the VAST majority of the cases, they are paid on commission; if they collect no money from you; they collect NO money to their coffers either.

But no matter what; do NOT avoid dealing with the situation. Ignoring will only make it worse.

Attempt to contact the CC company 1st, if it has not been a long period of time you might be able to reopen the account. If they do refer you to a collection agency try and have a removal from your credit report upon payment. Make sure you get this agreement in writting in case you have problems getting the item removed. Lastly if you have attemtpted at least three or more times to ask for a removal upon payment and they refuse then try for a paid in full on your credit report hope this helps.

Once it is sent to collections, you need to deal with the collection agency.

Call the collection company. Paying the credit card company is acceptable, but could cause you problems. If they don't tell the collection agency about your payment fast enough, they could sue you because you didn't pay--and then realize later they need to dismiss it when you say 'oh yes I did'--just another headache you don't need.

Plus, if you are ready to pay in a lump sum or set up a payment plan, the collection lawyers are the ones you need to deal with. At this point, simply sending a check would barely matter (you are still delinquent, they won't stop calling, and still might sue) unless either the check was for everything you owe or you called them first and worked something out.

I think its thru the collections

Make it easy on yourself and call the collections number. If you call the credit card company directly, they will just transfer you or refer you to collections.

Noelle
Yeah what everyone else said..you need to call the collection agency because it's in their hands now

Once it's been sold to a collections agency, you need to contact them in order to make payment arrangements or ask any questions about your account.
By selling your debt, the orginal cc company has washed its hands of your bill.
