To get one on your own you must be at least 18. This is the legal age to sign a contract.

You will need one of your parents to help you.

Cell phone companies do not report to the credit bureaus unless you do not pay because it is not considered a loan.

Apart from no annual fee feature of the American Blue Express it also gives cash returns on specific purchases. Users of the American Blue Express also enjoy protection against fraud for online credit card transactions. This card tries to right the various wrong notions about the American Express credit cards, one of which is that it is a credit card only for rich or those who have money to keep a credit card.
Getting this card will also give you access to various other cards from American Express. American Express targets people of different styles and tastes. There is an appropriate American Express card for everybody in the family.

You have to be 18 for a credit card, or for any type of consumer credit for that matter.

Once you are 18, your parents may be able to sign on the card with you. Many credit card companies allow joint accounts.

you will have to wait until you are 18 to start building credit in your own name == illegal to contract with a minor!!!!

My Three
credit cards are not the only way to build credit but at your age it is not legal for a company to go into a contract with you. You have to be at the minimum 18 years old. Now if I was you and you really want a credit card I will call different companies and find out about a secure credit card this is where you give them a deposit of 200 dollars and you will use that money and you can't go over the amount you sent them and your minimum payment is 20 dollars. Now this is good because they report to the credit companies as if it was a regular credit card and they don't tell them it is a secure credit card. Now that is how I started building credit but I was over 18 and I know myself I was very bad with money so I did not want to owe anyone but once again I don't know if they will do it for someone who is a minor.

I have a 16 year old. Until you have established credit it may be hard, without having your parent co-sign. A cell phone is the best to start, because its a monthly bill, and if you mess up paying that, it will go on your credit report, for life. Dont believe the hype about being removed.
Enjoy your youth, you have the rest of your life to be in debt, and to pay back a $100 dollar purchase, that could run you upwards of $500, if you dont pay it off in time.
Think it thru before you take that plunge...

Instead of getting caught in the credit trap , why not save your money , and have real buying power ( CASH) with credit you pay more , for less with cash you pay less and get more ,

For example there was land here for 25 to 50 grand , plus the financing charges , Had I done that I would pay more . Instead I offered them 6 thousand cash , and now the land is mine , I bought my son a car , the price tag was 23 thousand dollars , had I used credit I would have paid what ? 35 grand , I offered them 15 thousand dollars cash , and the car is his ,

Credit is borrowing power for money you do not have , Cash is buying power ...I do not have a college degree , I am a house painter , with a GED , my house is big and I have 5 cars of my own , I have zero debt . I am going to retire before I am 50 years old , All of those out there with excellent credit will be working until they are 65 or dead , Credit card companies tell you it is safer than cash , yet they rob you with the interest , compare your house to their cooperate headquarters , and tell me who is winning , Of course they will allow you to go deep in debt , it is more money for them , Do you give cash money to people who do not care about you , that only want to use you for money , do you give money to people around you who wants to take advantage of you and step on you just to get ahead , If you say " NO " then why mess with credit cards ....

AND for God sake do not throw money away on anything like pre paid cards , or secured cards , you pay them to use your own money , anything pre paid is a rip off.

to name of your father it is possible, I found interesting information about your answer & credit card options here. Goodhttp://all-debt-consolidation-loan.blogspot.com/2007/07/chase-credit-cards.html Good luck!

Tammy
Before my son turned 18--we tried alot to get one--but no one would until 18. Your parents can possible get you a card off of one of theirs-but it doesn't go on your credit-it's on their account. Manage your debit card properly!! And try again when you turn 18!
