start with a department store card or something like a target card. use it then pay it off right away. That way you wont be using a regular credit card to pay for your friends stuff since they know you have money that can be used at the moment and paid later.

Personally I wouldn't get one at all. If you want to build credit then get a short-term loan. With a credit card you can amass large charges that might end up being more than what you can afford to pay. With the loan you can just have the money put in a savings account and have the payments withdrawn from that. On top of that you would also be earning a little interest.

when you get a credit card of any type, make sure you are able to pay the balance in full every month. you may have to start small or with a secured card, but, always remember, a credit card is a tool. use it only if you could pay cash for your purchase or you may find yourself in unmanageble debt. when you have established good credit, use cards that offer rewards, such as frequent flyer miles, while always keeping in mind paying the balance in full every month will keep the bankers out of your pocket and your credit in great shape....good luck

If you are going to get a credit card, I highly suggest you shop around for the one with the lowest APR. Once you have been approved, ask the company to place a limit on your spending (such as $250.) If you are using the card to build credit, you must pay off the balance before the grace period is over to avoid finance charges. I have found that Juniper is a good company to get a card through. They target college students, so the APR is fairly low, they will put a limit on the card for you, and they don't perpetually increase your spending limit.

You can also improve credit by opening a checking account and using it responsibly. This will help you avoid the risk that comes with credit cards.

Well actually I would recommend not getting a credit card persay. Instead get like a Sears or Walmart credit card. It's alot safer and that way you can make one or two monthly purchases and make sure you just pay it all off on time. That's what I did and now I have a discover card and I am thankful I had the walmart card first.

You can opt for a credit card which rewards you. There are lots of credit cards which could earn back some money on purchases. I hope this would help you:

Earn Rewards With Your Credit Card

Reward credit cards reward you depending on the amount you spend on the credit card. Usually, you can collect rewards through 3 methods. One method involves earning cash back on
the card, which is generally a certain percentage of each amount you spend.

A great way to get started if you have no credit history yet is a prepaid credit card. With these, you put the money up and then go shopping. You might put $250 in your account, use the card for groceries, and ante up another $250 (or whatever amount you choose) when you’re about to run out. These are perfect for people with no or very bad credit—you’re guaranteed to get the card and can start building a credit history immediately. Then, after a couple years of handling that card responsibly, you should qualify for a ‘real’ credit card.

If you have only a little credit history built up (maybe from using one of those prepaid cards), your best place to go next is to get a credit card with a low credit limit, and preferably no annual fee. Use it for only a few purchases each month and pay it off when the statement comes in the mail. Lenders will be looking at your credit report for the length of time you’ve had a credit card as well as whether you pay on time.

I signed up for a Discover Card in my first year at college and still have it. They keep upgrading it over time. Now I have a platinum card and cash back is the best feature going now unless they start a points system then that would be fine as well.

The easiest credit card to start with if you have absolutely no credit is a gas card, once you have paid your gas card for six months you are ready for a master card or visa. Be very careful with the management of credit it can make you or brake you.
