Go to the bank, ask for a secured credit card. You back it with your own money. Use it like a credit card, and nobody, including credit reporting services know the difference. It's credit limit is whatever you deposit into the account.
Takes 6 months to a year, but the point on it is to build your credit. Deposit say $100.00. Then, make payments every month on time. Eventually the bank will buy the card from you, and offer you credit on it, with their money. Great way to establish, repair, build credit. |

Applying for too many may do that, but you should check your credit history you never know what someone could have done to it.
You can get a free one at

Do you have a job? If not, you cannot service the loan. In simple terms if you have no assets or money, you won't be able to pay the loan back.
Perhaps your mother could be a guarantor for you, which means that if you don't pay, your mother is responsible to cover the debt.
You could also buy something on interest free and pay it off, and that is how you will obtain a credit rating. If you fail to pay, your credit rating will be poor and you will not get any more loans.
Good luck! |

I am not sure librraies report to the credit bureaus, but you never know.
There are two ways to approach this issue. The quick and easy way is to "piggy back" on your parents' cards for a while. that will help you establish credit fast. The second way is to transfer some of the utility bills to you name and make payments without any delays. This is a slow process, but is most straight forward./

As a teen anymore it is usually best to start with a credit card through your bank. If you do not have a checking or savings account, it might be difficult.
My daughter started off when she began college with a $500 balance backed by a savings account and now she has it without the linking to a account and constantly gets applications for more cards in the mail. That is where you have to be careful, it is very important to use the card for fuel or other things and to pay it off (in full & on time) every month and you will build credit. Avoid accepting other cards as you should not need more than one at your age. |

You answered your own question. No credit history. If you have a savings account will $500, convert that into a secured credit card. Talk with your Bank about setting it up for you |

you did not apply for a card before getting denieeeed the first time so i doubt that is the case
your lib card maybe-- did they report it to the credit companies
run your credit report you can get it free once a yr @
I THINK myfreecredit report .com or something similar google it
my answer is you have no credit and the economy is crap right now banks are being stingy try a secured card you give a bank XX$ and you get a credit card with that as the limit after about 6 months of paying it on time you will be flooded with credit card offers |

If you apply for too many things it takes a hit at your credit. But you should first build up your credit.. so apply for something like a macy's card.. they'll approve you.. buy something small then just pay off the entire amount.. you'll build your credit that way then you should be able to apply for any major credit card. But be careful.. you don't want bad credit. Your library card doesn't have anything to do with it.. take a look at your credit history. You can look for free at freeannualcreditreport.com you won't get your score but if the library is on there (which i doubt) u'll see that too. |

Both of those could be the problem. |

your mom is probably right. why dont you check your credit rating, if you really need a credit card, why dont you get a pay as you go like the debit type credit card, that will build credit for you, or if you dont want that and want a real card, get a co-sign, if you can convince your parents to let you. |

If the fines on your library card has gone to collections, and you have no other history of paying debts on time on your credit report (ie, credit cards, loans, etc), then that's why. Check your credit report for free at one of the main credit sites (i think www.freecreditreport.com is one). It might help you figure out what's going on. |

get a checking account and keep it in good standing. Also maybe try to get a small loan and pay it off on time to build your credit. And pay off that library card!! They do check everythign! |

what credit cards are you trying to get? Cards like Discover have a minimum annual salary requirement
You should try looking into getting a student card.. a student card would require a parent to be on the card with you. This will help improve your credit.
do you have debt from loans at all? like student loans? |

the same thing happened to me. the reason is this actually right in front of you-- you're not getting approved BECAUSE you have no credit card history. And believe it or not, everytime you keep trying to get one and you get declined, it hurts your credit score. my advice to you is to try and get your mom to cosign with you and get you a simple visa card at the bank you use (or your mom uses). This same exact thing happened with me and i did what i just told you to do and now i have 3 credit cards. good luck! |

It could be a combo of both. Is the library account in collections? If so, pay it. Every time you apply for a credit card, it takes points off of your credit score. You can check your credit for free. Go to annualcreditreport.com. You can see your score and find out what is on there. That is considered a soft hit and won't take away from your score. You may have to start with a secured card. There are cards out there that you can get but you will pay a fortune in interest. First Premier has one. If you pay on time for a year and stay under your credit limit, they will raise it and lowerr your interest rate. |

go to Bank of America. they will give one. say if you have 500 dollars then they will give you one for 500. they just want a deposit of the amount you want to have for your limit. |

try a department store. my first credit card was at 18 yrs old Macy's with a 200- limit. i used it paid it in full for several months and established credit that way.library card should not have anything to do with it...but pay it how much could it possibly be! |

First, you should start by opening a bank account, and establish
yourself. For the first credit card, you should try applying for a
Sears card. Do you have a job, and if so, for how long? That is also an important factor. There are c.c. companies like Capital One or
easier ones that will not require such an extensive history to obtain.
The most important factor is work info and showing your ability to
pay back any credit usage. I do not think the library fees due are the
reason you can not get credit. That will only show when you try to
use your library card in the future. Both job or funds coming in on a
continual basis is what is important when obtaining a c.c. Good Luck |
