Im 24 from Scotland. I was declared bankrupt apprx 18 months ago and ran up around £6000 again, what can i do?
I had approx £24,000 of debt and i was declared bankrupt. The reason i have been in so much debt is because i have been sadly gambling it all away. I really need help and im liiking for advice. I dont want people just to tell me to go to GA because i know i have a problem and i am attending tonight so im already going. when i was declared bankrupt i kept borrowing money between my address and my mums. Most recently i applied for a loan of £3000 with London Fiancial and got it. I spent all the money on gambling. I then borrowed £2500 with welcome Finance and lost all that too. I am now to pay the companies back £200 each for 2 years but simply cant afford it. I told them i could at the time cos i wanted the money. I am very ill over this and i am married with 3 year old son. Is it possible to go bankrupt again, what will happen? I have not made any payments yet. I'm worried sick. Im doing something about my addiction but what about my debts? I cant afford to pay them.

The most important thing is to stop gambling.

I note you are in Scotland.
(In England) it is an offence under insolvency laws to obtain credit without telling the creditor you are bankrupt. (In England) It used to be an arrestable offence to gamble while bankrupt. You can be bankrupt twice at the same time but it means that your second bankruptcy is very likely to be a long one.

The CAB will be of limited value unless you go to one with a professional legal advisor.

You NEED to speak to your Trustee or whatever the Scottish equivalent is, because if they find out about this (and they have the power to investigate you without your consent) you could be in serious trouble.

Trustees in bankruptcy have heard it all before though so don't be frightened. Clarissa Dixon-Wright (Fat Lady) is on her third bankruptcy. All they want is honesty and fair deal between creditors and debtors. Nobody goes to prison for debt - bankruptcy means you are protected from your creditors but you need to 'fess up. You will feel much better.

this happened to friends of mine..go to the citizen's advice bureau and ask about a trust ...this reduces the amount you pay and may be over a shorter period of time, they also may get in touch with your debtors to give you more time to pay...the companies would rather have some of their money back than none of it.your local council will have a service also about debts so get in touch with them to see if they can help.Focus on your family to help you through your rough times and good luck to you all for the future

Dam man thats harsh you got to get yourself declared as being addicted then let the courrts settle your debts. Let them knacker your credit references so you can't get any more loans.

You know the only winners are the bookies trust me one of my uncles is a bookie.

You gotta get your head right even if it means your have to go a mental hospital or whatever. Sorry to be harsh but you know you got a problem you gotta face it goinf bankrupt again is just starting the cycle over.

In court if you can't proove your an addict you may have some problems they might call it fraud this time. Go see the quack and get refered to a shrink.

The money is gone don't try and win it back... don't ever go in a bookies again in fact don't even walk past one. Get your head straight and put your attention to your son and wife they need you more than money.

You need to start thinking - what is more important - your gambling or your family? A parent in prison isn't going to be very useful at all. You have to think about becoming the kind of person that you wish your son to be some day - you are one of his role-models, and you want him to feel proud of you. Sadly nobody else is going to be able to help you do that but yourself - you decide what your actions every day are going to be - nobody else.

A good idea is to only carry a small amount of money with you at any time - cut up all your credit and debit cards (if you have any) and get realistic. DO NOT take out any more loans. Avoid going to any place where you know the temptation to gamble is strong. Work hard and pay back all the money you owe - personal luxuries can wait. Go to your nearest citizens advice bureau - they can help you arrange a payment plan with all the people you owe money to. And by the way - using your mother's address was out of order - you need to own up to that so it doesn't spoil her credit.

Most importantly, keep going to your GA meetings - you have admitted that you have a problem sure - but you aren't actually facing it. You need to be there with people who can support you, no matter how difficult it may seem. You obviously can't do this without some kind of guidance. Don't dig yourself a deeper hole. Good luck! :-)

Not sure what the bankruptcy laws are in Scotland. Although I find it unlikely you would be able to file again after only 18 months. I won't tell you to go to GA since your problem is way beyond a couple of meetings. You need to seek help from a mental health professional. That's ashame you are a family man and you are literally taking your childs future away from him/her. In fact, just jeopardizing your family period.

I'm not really sure what you can do but why did these company's lend you money when you are already bankrupt? it is very irresponsible of them. have you told your wife and family about your situation? it sometimes helps to unburden yourself. i hope it all works out for you. stay strong

You're getting good advice here..... don't bother with the Snell company that just means more debt. Don't go to money lenders because that means more debt and possible dangers, they always sound good but you give away a lot when you borrow from them.

You certainly need help and you're obviously aware of this which is a start to walking the right path. Take the advice offered and get yourself registered as a gambling addict, it may help if you end up in court. It's no good stressing yourself out. Just do all you can to sort out the problem and focus on that.

Good luck, you can do it.

point 1. bankrupt a 2nd time is something like a 10 year deal, not the cushy 1 year job you have just had.

point 2. no-one is going to bankrupt you for 6K

point 3. talk to citizens advice. the lenders have a responsibility to make sure you can aford it, so you might be able to work out some sort of agreement.

Are you careless that you are affected for the second time. It is not good. Try to consult with some atorneys in scotland or call some debt consolidator for help.

I am wondering how you managed to get a loan while you were declared bankrupt as you are put on the blacklist for 10 years.
Your best bet (no pun intended) would be to contact your local citizens advice bureau who will be able to advise you on whether you can go bankrupt again or they may be able to put you in touch with a company who could freeze your loan payments or reduce them.
