debt consolidation

getting out of debt is pretty easy with a debt consolidation plan
however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,

a good place to start in my humble opinion is:

depends on what stage your debt problems have got to,, a company can SELL the debt at anytime without previoulsy informing you, the new credit recover people would then write to advise they have taken over and you should ring to arrange payments,, they will initially say they want payment in full,,, BUT stand your ground they can only ask,, a baliff would only call IF you do not make the agreed payments,, to recover debt... but you will recieved notice before hand!! hope this helps!!

JuruGosh
Yes they have to write to you first ...what you don't want tho is a visit as this will add £100-£200 to your debt regardless of the size.

amalia g
you'll sure get a letter from them first

sjlparis
Yes, you should get a letter from them first. Also alot of companies threaten you with baliffs but in reality its pretty unusual for them to send them. The best thing to do would be to call the company who is chasing you for payment - be honest with them about your financial situation and ask them if you can arrange a repayment plan, 99% of the time they will accept this. If you're too scared to call them yourself then you can contact the Citizens Advice Bureau who will contact them on your behalf.

I suggest that you meet a debt counselor and set things right immediately. No point in wasting time. Read the articles to gain an insight:

I had this same problem, my solicitor informed me that they should write to you first or if the call to your home they will usually give you the chance to arrange payment of the debt. I would however advise you to contact your local citizens advice office or if you have one a solicitor

Jigsaw
yep , you will get 3 letters hand posted....
If the debt is a parking fine or a Council debt they will clamp your car and sell it at aution to pay the debt off.!!

But the one thing you NEVER do is open your door to them , That is classed as an "Open invite" and once they put one foot over your step, thats "Legal entry" and there is nothing you can do about it...( Court Bailiffs have more power than the Police )

If the debt is "Unsecured " and under £500 , nothing will happen but the letters ( 3 off them ) any more and you can prosecute them for harassment.

If the debt is secured then i would say see a solicitor and take all paper work with you .

Hope this helps

Yes you will get loads of letters first. If the debt is not for a tax or a fine and is from a private loan company, the bailiffs can't do anything to you as long as you don't let them in your house.

jamesdean2002uk
right you have several options - :

1. pay off your debt - or call who it is and agree to terms ie - £ 10 a month repayment.

2. forget aboutit - let the solicitors / debt management company send you a few SCARE letters then if they turn up dont answer - if your parents answer then u have moved out -

3. say you have changed address - make up address.

4. just remember your credit rating - im not suggesting you listen to me - depends on the amount -

Hi Harvinder S,
Bailiffs do have some rights and some of the answers here are accurate. It would be worthwhile having an online chat with a Myvesta UK advisor and they will be able to assist you free of charge. The online chat link is below:

Hope this helps and best of luck !

not from a bailiff, they just turn up. If you agree that the debt is owed, write to the owner of the debt and offer to make payments.

It depends how far down the line you are.

If you've only just had problems, speak with your creditor. You may be able to come to some arrangement.

Even if they pass this debt onto a third party collection agent, they will always try to come to some arrangement first. Only if you break the arrangement or fail to make one then further action may be taken.

This would be usually in the form of court action. A baliff can only work with a court order.

If you have a doorstep visit, the important this is not to allow them past your door step, as this will allow them legal entry in subsequent visits.

The important thing is to act now. Speak to Citizens Advice www.adviceguide.org.uk or the National Debt Line www.nationaldebtline.co.uk

Don't wait. Get it sorted.

Contact a Debt Management agency, a regulated / legitimate one such as 'Eurodebt'. The will for a fee take control of your debts and offer the people you own money to a reduced sum which the may or may not accept.

Your alternative is to get down to your nearest Citizens Advice Bureao.

Remember - BALIFFS have NO rights to enter your home without an invitation or a court order (normally accompanied with the police), even if they trick you into letting them come in your front door "can I come in as it's raining...can we discuss this in private" - once you let them in, you grant them permission to carry out their duties. DO NOT LET THEM IN.

Only Inland Revenue balliffs can enter without permission, any others and it's breaking & entering / forcible entry.

Oh, yeh. Your credit rating will be ruined for at least 6 years. So NO loans, NO mortgages, NO credit cards......
