Do you have a home? If you have equity in your home you can consolidate it into a home equity loan...or if not...I would agree that consolidating it would be best one payment...maybe a lower interest rate.
I would go to this website...it has a lot of info on getting out of debt

There is a great place to go with this. I was in a very similar situation.
This is getting help from real people without the use of banks or credit card companies. Good Luck!

First off I'd like to ask... how did you get 15000 in debt? whatever you bought you may want to take it back, or start pawning off your stuff. That's my best guess. |

First: Lose the credit cards. Put them in a safety deposit box if you don't want to cut them up (but you should)
2) List them in order from smallest amount to largest so you know who to start paying 1st.
3) Lay out a monthly plan. Separate it into 1-15th and 16th to end (this way you can divide how much from each paycheck you have left.
On the plan lay out how much you need to pay: rent/morgage (which should never be more than 28% of your income)
Grocery money about 10%
Household (ie cable, electricity, phone) 6%
Car: gas, payments, maintenance about 13%
10% should be going to an emergency fund/savings account.
You can still have a little fun money to spend but limit it to about 6% of your paycheck.
Pull your budgeted money out and use cash for your groceries and your misc/fun money. Once this is gone it's gone.
Now.....You should be using about 13% of your paycheck to pay off your debts. I have sometimes used the 10% of my savings and put it towards a debt instead. Especially if it was going to pay it off.
I hope that some of this was helpful and that you can get yourself out of the slump.
I would also suggest calling your credit cards and seeing what can be done about the interest rate. Most will try and oblige so they don't lose your business. |

join a local credit union. they are like banks but nonprofit, so their interest rates will be much lower. get a consolidation loan and pay off your credit cards. the loan will help lower the interest that u pay on your debt and help lower your payments. that way you can overpay each month and more of ur payments will go to the actual balance rather than paying off the interest. Most people don't understand that debt can build up even if u dont' overspend. just because people aren't willing to live in low income housing and use credit cards to pay for a decent life isn't something to be ashamed of. Just keep making payments to keep your credit score up and take advantage of tranfer offers with no fees and low apr. |

First put away the credit card don't carry them with you,
and when you pay your bill don't pay the minimum amount they ask for,
look at the interest rate they are tacking on,
then at the very minimum pay the minimum amount plus the interest added,
but if you can pay a little more then that and you will start to pay it down,
but if you only pay the minimum amount they ask for you will never pay them off that is how they are set up.
Some times if the interest is real high it is cheaper to get a personal loan and pay off the cards, if nothing else one at a time.
After reading some of your other answers, I needed to say if you are in that deep of debt DON'T get a consolidated Loan against your home the first time you can't make payment not only will you still have the debt but you will loss your home, What the heck are you people thinking,
Consolidated loans are as bad as the credit card companies. |

You should take the card with the highest interest rate and pay the most on it that you can. On the remaining cards just pay the minimum. As you get the first one paid off concentrate on the next highest interest rate card. Continue this process until it is all paid off. You are going to be suprised how fast you can eliminate this debt. You could also take out a home equity loan (assuming you own a house and have some equity in it). Use the home equity loan to pay off the credit cards. This will not eliminate the debt, but it can give you some benefit at the end of the year when you deduct the interest from your taxes. You can find more solutions like these at http://www.your-credit-solution.com . They even offer a free credit repair guide.
Good Luck! |

1. This is obvious. Cut up those credit cards. Never use them again. Ever.
2. Debt consolidation will end up costing you more then if you pay them off on your own.
3. Get yourself on a written budget. You can control your money or your money can control you. List your essentials first: food, mortgage, utilities, etc. Then list your other debts smallest to largest.
Include a blow column because most everyone is going to blow some money at some point. May as well have a blow column.I do.
Also include a savings column. It's important to get 1000 dollars into an emergency fund. Murphy will visits at some point. He visits all of us.
Start paying extra on your smallest debt. Pay minimums on everything else. Once you knock out the smallest debt, then roll that money over to the next smallest. And on and on.
4. Sell stuff. I sell used cds and dvds to a store in our mall that buys them. Have a yard sale. Get to know ebay.
5. Maybe get a second job for a while. All the money from the second job can go toward paying off this debt. |

First thing stop spending unnecessary money, and cut up your cards! If you do not have money in hand do not buy anything. Stick to nothing but basics food, bills, etc. Buy nothing extravagant. And last but not least try calling a company for bill consolidation or a financial adviser. Good luck! This will be hard, but I am sure you can do it! |
