It would be much better to find a contact person at Sears to whom you can address the letter - you can easily check their website for the contact or make a phone call if necessary to find a name. Otherwise, direct the letter to a specific department, such as "Dear Customer Service Representative" or "Attention: Regional Manager" etc. |

"Dear Sir or Madam" is kind of outdated.
Make it to the attention of whatever department you're writing to, and have the salutation be "to whom it may concern." |

Well if I am trying to be respectful I will use Sir or Madam. Like if I want them to do something for me. ;) Its a nice touch.
