Is 15 too young to have a credit card?
Out of the blue the other day my mom handed me a credit card with my name on it. I had to sign the back and everything. It was soo random. It's cute though it has Tinkerbell on it. Anyway, why would 15 be too young to have a credit card? Apparently my mom doesn't think so. :-S

She just said I had to ask her before I bought anything.

If your mom trusts you not to abuse the charge card then great. This is an opportunity to learn about budgeting, savings and interest. Mom should also have you go over the charge card bill each month.

Since you're asking the question, it sounds like you think you are too young.

I would never give a 15 year old a credit card. I did give my teenage kids my credit card to use for specific purposes. But allowing a 15 year old to keep the card in their possession is just too much temptation.

Im a big proponent of prepaid credit cards for teens. It teaches the responsibility without the risk, or interest.

15 is excessively young to have a credit card. At 15 you don’t know what the consequences are to having one, you are not mature you are not disciplined. You are not stable, you have to have a stable job to be able to pay for what you buy. Why dont you get a bank debit card that would be better at your age and you wouldnt have to worry about the interest rates etc. I really hope your mom don’t let you have one!

well it depends if u are working for the money and to pay the credit card bills. i think a atm card is better to have because then no bills to pay. you would get a statement of the transactions u make. everyone is different.

I can't fathom why your parents gave you a credit card at age 15. I know I'm not them, but there is no way I would. I doubt you understand all of the risks involved with having a credit card.

Since you are asking the question, it sounds like your thought process is very responsible. Most 15 year olds would not be able to handle it, but it is a great way to learn more about personal finance instead of the learning happening when you are moving out from home and being without much adult influence

Get an ATM instead if you still can but I gots an ATM and I hardly ever use it
But it is still good for some situations
