* 700-719: Very Good credit ("A")
* 675-699: Good credit ("B")
* 620-674: Acceptable credit ("C")
* 560-619: Poor credit ("D")
* 500-560: Very poor credit ("E")
* Below 500: No credit, credit-based applications denied outright ("F") |

A 588 represents a high risk to lenders. It's not a "horrible" score. You can still get approved for loans and credit if you look hard enough. Don't feel like you're alone though. I'm only a few points higher than you are. |

588 would be considered pretty low for a credit score..you definitely won't be getting a very good interest nor will many places give you credit. Check out this website for info on what percentages of the population have what credit score. http://www.myfico.com/CreditEducation/CreditScores.aspx . |

The only thing "horrible" is if you lose sight of your debt. If you can manage it all and pay your bills when they're due, then you're doing ok. |

It's not horrible but a little below average. It needs to improve in order for you to purchase most cars or a house. |

I would say you have some work to do.
You'll need to get your debt down, them maintain the accounts like credit cards. When I say maintain, I mean use them every month but pay most of it off every month.
And pay all your bills on time. This helps a lot, too. |
