Is 619 a good credit score?

$m¤¤v¥ £¤¢¤
As an analyst and underwriter for a credit card company, when I manually review reports, I don't always go by the score. A score of 619 won't get you the top notch rates, but at least you have a sporting chance of getting approved when you apply.

What you should understand is that it's not always about the score, but what's in your score. By the way, this is what makes up your score:

1. Payment history- 35%
2. Total debt owed to available credit ratio-30%
3. Length of time establishing credit-15%
4. Types of credit established-10%
5. Inquiries and New accounts-10%

If you have negative items that are less than 2 years, that's what's tanking your score the worst. If you have balances that are higher than 25-30% of your available credit, that tanks your score. If you apply for credit excessively, each of those inquiries when you apply regardless if you're approved or denied, lower your score 3-5 points. All of these can lower your score.

It's considered the lower end of :"fair".

Sorry, but 619 is pretty low. Check out FICO for information on how your credit score can be improved, etc. Yours needs some work in order to get better insurance rates, interest rates, etc.

thats a wrelsting move!!!

Now a days that would be considered on the lower side of good. I believe excellent starts around 750.

It's not bad, but it could be better. Everybody should aim to be at least 700 points if they can. It will take time, but follow the basic rules, and you will eventually get there:

1. Pay all your bills on time
2. Car payments, phone bills, health bills, they ALL count
3. Have multiple lines of credit, but don't use more 1 or 2 cards
4. Keep a very low or nonexistent revolving balance (the balance that carries over from month to month).

Pat
It is average. Generally anything over 700 is considered higher.

I think it's a pretty good score! I have a credit score of around 650 or so, and I got approved for a pretty nice house, 3 bedrooms, 2 fireplaces, in one of the better parts of town. 619 is not bad at all, I think. It also depends on how old you are and how much credit you have built up so far, if you have 619 because you're still acquiring credit, or if you had better credit but messed it up somehow and now you're left with 619! My sister has a credit score of 610 and was told there is no way in hell she can get approved for a house or car because she messed up the good credit she had so badly.

imartbitch
yes it is decent but 700+ is better

island3girl
it's okay

be sure to get your annual copy of your credit report and make any changes that need to be done, pay your bills on time and don;t allow too many credit checks and you will raise it in no time

Jesus is Love
Your score is just below the dividing line of good and bad credit, there are more than one score, follow the links to find out how you can find all your scores (I think there are 3)
The third link is pretty good.
From first link___*****

Once you go below a 700 score, however, it becomes difficult to categorize credit as good or bad.

* Between 650 and 700 - Considered very good credit, although some institutions may consider a score of 650 to be excellent credit. Again, this is specific to the industry and the target market the institution is after.
* Between 600 and 650 - A good credit score. Sometimes the minimum for “good credit” is bumped up to 620, because this is generally considered the cutoff point for a prime rate loan. Lenders generally view people with scores between 600 and 620 to be a much higher credit risk.
* Below 600 - Lenders see you as a high credit risk. While you can still obtain loans and credit cards in this range, they will often be secured credit cards and loans at the highest interest rate. If you have a score below 600 you are generalized as someone with having credit problems and probably have open credit problems that need to be addressed.
* Below 550 - Any FICO score below 550 is considered to be awful credit (multiple bankruptcies, loan defaults, past-due accounts, judgments against, etc.)

As I said, this is a general list for FICO scores that are calculated to 850. There is no “standard” for estimating credit risk by companies, so this article should be used only as an overview when determining your likelihood of being approved for a credit card or loan

Not really --you want to be at 650 and above--try and stay at the 700's

It's ok, very middle of the road. That's only one score though, you should know all three. Check with Transunion, Equifax, and Experian.
You really should aim for anything above 700 or 750. The closer to 800 the better.

Its not too great but, not the worst. You may have trouble getting credit from lenders.
Credit scores range from 500 to just over 800, so...

You would fall into the bottom half of the fair credit category. It's not horrible, but you need to be above the 660's before you get into the good range.

HELLO
dunno but its a good wrestling move ;)

A 619 is a below average credit score. Average is around 650. I deal with peoples credit on a daily basis.

A 619 would be considered sub-prime

it's not bad but it could be better. I think mine is around 600 something too, and it was good enough to qualify me to buy a new car, so I guess it's not too bad. I think the highest score is 800.

Mona Lisa
Considering how many people are entering forclosure and out of jobs, I'd say yes, its a good score
