When I spoek with a loan officer the other day he said--
Above 680 is considered good. 710 is very good probably in the 75-80 percentile of good credit. And 770 is in the top 10 % of all credit scores.
630-680 is considered average credit
580-630 is considered below average credit
and below 580 is flat out bad credit. |

You will get the same rate with a 710a s you will with a 770. As one answerer stated, 770 just gives you more cusion. |

710 is a great score for almost anything, and for many intends and purposes 710 is probably just as good as 770.
As far as mortgage loans are concerned, if your score is 710 and you have normal down payment and can easily document your income, then again 710 is just about as good as 770.
Now, if for any reason you can not document your income, then someone with a score over 720 (or 730 with some banks) may qualify for a so-called 'stated income' program a little easier.
Once your score goes over 730 -- consider it perfect.
The only advantage of having 770 is that, say if you decide to open a credit card to get one of those 15% off or something like that, that may create a small dent on your score while the card is new, so with 770 you have plenty of 'cushion', whereas with 710 you really have to be careful. |

Credit score ranges are rather straight-forward and apply to most lending programs. The higher the score, the better your credit rating-and the higher your credit worthiness. The scale runs from 300 on the low end to 850 on the high end with the median score in the U.S. falling right around 720.
Part of the mystery behind credit scores is that there is no one particular scale for determining whether or not a credit score is "good." However many financial experts agree that there are some basic guidelines. Generally speaking, credit scores of 800 and above are nearly perfect and most scores of 720 or higher will garner the best mortgage rates and lending options. Credit scores between 750 and 800 are considered to be excellent; credit scores from 720 and 750 are good to excellent; those ranging from 690 to 720 are considered good; and borrowers with credit scores ranging from 620 and 690 are fair credit risks. A credit score below 620 is considered poor. |
