You seem to have a slow reaction time here.

While I've been smart enough to not get a credit card, I have been in some debt, and as long as it isn't totally life threatening, you can pay it off over time.

It might also depend on how much you have on your credit cards...

This is why we are in this financial crisis. It's not your fault . It's the credit companies. They should never have loaned to people who have no idea what credit even is or what could happen to them if they don't pay.
You should start paying something on it even if it's the minimum amount. If you don't your credit score will go way down (if it hasn't already) and you will never get credit again. I say never cause it will feel like never. If you file for bankruptcy (which I wouldn't unless you were over 20 thousand dollars in debt and have no way of paying it off) you would still have that on your record for 7 years.

At this point they have probably added all the late payment fees to your debt and they have probably turned you over to a debt collectors agency. Have you gotten lots of phone calls or emails or anything of them trying to contact you and get their money? If not they that's odd. If so you need to get back to them and work out a payment plan to pay it off. Just PAY your debt...it's the best way out of it.

You're in major debt. I suggest (I know it'll be hard on yourself), but get a well paying job for the time being.

Dinkie
idk whats going to happen so pay em off ASAP

Unfortunately, there are too many who think credit cards are blank checks. They are totally irresponsible, blame most every one else for their shortcomings, don't support their children and are the dregs of society.Cut up the cards and use cash only.

Judy
Employers check reports.
A ding like this will prevent you from getting a trusted job.

You can find on the internet ways of getting the interest off and make a payment plan.
And pay just the cost. Use the internet and look for a helpful answer there.

I've been in this very situation. If you can now afford to pay them off do so now. if there in collection status then pay the collection company tell them that you want a letter stating that the debt is paid in full and noted on your credit report. I went more than two years. Sometimes they'll even take half of the final bill. Just make sure you get it in writing. when i did this my credit score started to rise within a year. and with in two years it went up by 200 points.

the_boldens@sbcglobal.net
Contact the credit card company and be truthful, but professional. Try to make arrangements to repay. While making arrangements to repay ask if they will clear your credit if you fulfill your arrangements.

I have heard stories that they are reducing the interest rates.

I haven't paid mine in going on 2 yrs. I just grabbed a credit report, and they had all been turned over to collections. My one credit card that had only 500.00 dollars charged on it, is now up to 999.00 thanks to a million fees. If you can't pay them, you can't pay them. Its bull that all the credit card companies are getting bailouts for managing their money wrong, but those of us that actually need the help and are drowning are expected to pay. I can't and won't be paying anytime soon. I know a lot of people in this boat right now, try not to stress too much about it...you won't be going to jail or anything. Worse case scenario, you won't pay and they will try to garnish your wages. try calling up the companies and setting up payment plans, most of them are pretty good about doing that.
I just tell myself "its just money, and when I am someday on my death bed, this won't matter. I won't be thinking 'gee, i'm sure glad I paid off all my credit cards before I died.'"
