You mean is the US debt to big to fail? Thats a pretty good way to look at it since it would cause truly massive problems worldwide if it did fail. However, the government owns lots of rally good printing presses and so the debt won't fail - they will just inflate their way out of it. The problem is rampant inflation that could come from this, but thats another discussion. |

Do you mean a country's debt can't cause it to fail because it would affect all other countries who have lent money, have citizens who have invested in the country, bring down the world economy,etc? If that's what you mean, it seems to be so.
I found a site that says that the debt of the USA is $13,056,036,813,101.74 as of June 1, 2010. Divide that by the # of citizens we had on that day, the each individua's share is $42,322.34. |
