You got some bad information. Your social security number is unique to you.
That credit card company possibly has made a mistake when they entered the other person's number into their system and they need to correct it immediately.
The other way your ssn is used on another account is from identity theft. Many times bits and pieces of different people's personal info are used to open accounts. That's called 'synthetic identity theft'.
That other account WILL affect your credit. Dispute it and have it removed. |

It is illegal. NO two people in this country can have the same social security number. Its called Identity Theft. File a report with your local police department and contact your local credit reporting agency to flag your credit file. Then contact the credit card company and ask them to close the account or you will file a lawsuit against them. You may also need to contact an attorney for help with the credit card company if they won't close the account. |

Someone is stealing your identity. You better do something right away before you are so in debt that you can never get out. |

It is not possible for two people to have the same social security number. If someone else is using yours, I would contact the social security administration and report it. They could be stealing your identity and you'll end up paying for things this person purchased. DO IT TODAY!!! |

You need to get hold of the Social Security Administration and report this. Sounds like identity theft.
No two people are suppose to have the same number and yes it can effect your credit rating because if someone else stole your SS number the person they will be looking for when an account is not paid is you. It can ruin you for life. |

I've never heard of it and I wouldn't just accept that answer. I would take it further and find someone that can answer you question more thoroughly and satisfactorily. |

Social Security has a toll-free number that operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday: 1-800-772-1213. You should report the other person to them. |

People are screaming "Identaty Theft". Yes this could be a possibility, but what is more likely the problem is that the person at the credit card company typed in the wrong number. One must remember that a computer is only as smart as the person opperating it, and there is even human error incolved with computers.
It will be a hastle to get everything fixed. First let the Social Security administration know what is going on, then you will have to fight with the credit card company to have them correct their error. They don't like to admit their mistakes. When you talek to the Social Security Administration write down everything you talk about, even the part that what has happened is definatly NOT leagal (get the operators name too). This way when you go back to the credit card company you have amunition to fight back with them. The Federal Government trumps the credit card company.
Good luck! |

It's only possible if someone has stolen your social security number. You should contact the Social Security Office immediately and contact your credit card companies and credit services (Experion, etc.) to report this. |

You will need to change your ssn. Your credit can and will be affected by any activity on your ssn#. It is a pain, I know and they may not want to do it but for you, and your peace of mind do not hesitate. |
