nooooooooooooo it's great fun spending cash you haven't earnt, infact having credit gives you a credit history an das long as you pay it back you're fine

(must be an arranged overdraft though)

AlienSunflower
It only gives you bad credit if you go over your overdraft and cant pay it back, the bank will only send a default notice if it remains unpaid after them making every attempt to make you aware of it and you still don't pay. Using an over draft can actually help your credit rating if used properly, meaning if you use it regularly but always pay it back every month it shows you are a reliable customer. Obviously it is best to only use it in emergencies, like if you have an unexpected payment to make, like a deposit or something. But basically your partner is wrong.

Anjell
I take it you're referring to a bank account? It's not "bad" per se to go into overdraft as long as it is paid back by the date agreed upon at the time it was given to you.

Lil' E.
just don't do it

fergalicious
It it's an "authorised" overdraft you're fine - i.e. an amount that you have agreed with the bank, and you don't exceed that. Although sometimes there is a small charge for using this facility (i.e. 2%) but this does not affect your credit report in the same way as other bank charges - it is more like a bus fare - i.e. a fee that you pay for a service.

If you go over your agreed overdraft limit however, this is where it can start causing problems with your credit rating, and you may incur bank charges.

I have an overdraft of £300 which I use regularly. It just gets topped back up when I get my wages, and then if I need to use it again, it's always there. It stops me getting caught out. They are good things, if used sensibly

I was always taught "Never a Borrower or a Lender be". The only loans I ever took were to buy my first bike to do my paper round and my mortgage. I now have sufficient savings to see me through my life.

COLIN T
Not really! If you have an pre agreed on going overdraft facility then that is what it is there for, to be used. The key words are "pre-agreed".

Going into overdraft situation without prior agreement IS bad.

If you need a loan, get a loan.
Overdrafts are ridiculously high priced loans.

Maybe this will shed some light onto this subject for you http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/does-an-overdraft-charge-affect-your-credit-score-4286.aspx

hilda s
yes,it is.
overdraft is just another way for banks to make money cos they charge u alot for little.overdraft makes money to bei n control over an individual.
u should hav applied for an account dat no overdraft is allowed
u could cancel the ovedraft and learnt to control ur finances

greybeard
Look Jenny, overdrafts are an expensive way to borrow money, in fact, the best advice I can give you is never borrow money if you can possibly help it, it always costs-----

Inquisitive
Yes going into your overdraft is not that good for your credit rating missing a payment on one of your direct debits though is much much worse. :)
