Is it better to use a credit card or a debit card?
what are the pros's and con's

Pro for debit card.... takes money out of acct now..no interest
con for debit card... takes money out now.....must have money in acct.

Credit card allows you to buy things you need.. even though you don't have the money right now

con on credit card... unless you pay off bal each month, you pay interest on what you owe....

A debit card is better then a credit card as long as the item is paid for and you have funds to pay for the item. A credit card is BAD because it has a lot of power and every time you use the card, they charge a lot of interest if the entire balance is not paid off.

If you make sure to pay your credit card in full each month; then I would use the credit card. They usually offer better fraud protection, and if you have a rewards credit card, then you will get points just for using it. In addition, you are less likely to get hit with overdraft charges, like you would if you accidently charged to much to your debit card.

Alot of places charge an extra fee for using a debit card, plus there are supposed to be more security measures using a credit card (like checking ID).

A debit card means your spending your money that is in your bank account

a credit card is your spending the banks money and you have to pay them back...if you get a credit card just make sure you pay your monthly bill and dont spend more than you can afford.

WEll with a debit card your credit isn't going to get ruined because you're spending your own money. Credit cards are good in emergencies when you don't have any money at the moment but you'll be getting some to pay it back.

You have more protection on your purchases with a credit card but if you do not pay it in full every month you will have the interest to pay for.

Uwhen U use a bank card such as debit, my branch mgr told me it's safer 2 use it as a credit card & say credit @ checkout. using the card as credit means U won't hafta share yer pin.

Debit: Payment is immediate, and you can only spend what you have in your bank account at the time. This helps reign in spending, but also means you cannot buy bigger items. It also means you lose any bank interest from the amount spent, where delaying payment means you could have earned interest.

Credit: Payment is delayed. This means you can buy things with money you don't really have, which can lead to serious credit problems. However, if you are wise with credit, you can buy things you could not buy with a debit card, and pay for them when the bill comes in, or over a few payments, although this means paying interest.

For travelling - debit cards are universal in Canada, but are very difficult to use in the USA. You have to have the right type, from the right bank (usually, an American one), etc. Thus, in the US, credit cards are easier to use, and are much more widely accepted.
