Is it easy to get a loan in USA if you never been there?
A thought crossed my mind.. So I got curious. I'm sure the interest rates in the USA is cheaper than Australia. So how easy (or hard) is it for a non resident to borrow money from a USA bank?

No it will be next to impossible. As one poster stated everything is related to your credit score and since you don't have one in the U.S. you will not be able to get a loan. I can also say as an immigrant that it is extremely frustrating and difficult to get credit in the US when you first move here. It takes time and effort to build up a good credit score. You have to start with a high interest low limit secured credit card to get things rolling then slowly build it up from there.

It's about impossible to get a loan like this. Please don't fall for the scams like the two here among your answers I already have seen!

A lot of banks are multinational now. It would be difficult because the bank is considered about risk, how will they be paid back and how is it going to track down the borrower. You could try but I think it will be pretty difficult unless you have some kind of collateral such as a savings account or cd with the USA bank.

It seems to be easier to get a loan if you're a US immigrant than if you're a US citizen. The system is flawed.
I'm not sure if they give loans to non-US citizens, as you need a social security number so that they can pull your credit scores.

American bank lending is related to US credit scores known as FICO scores. A non-resident moving here has a lot of trouble even getting a cell phone without a US credit history and credit score - it would be extremely difficult to get a US loan without substantial US based security and/or FICO score. Also, interest rates are tied the US FICO/credit score and you will find the cheapest rates only go to people with the best scores. In reality, most Americans pay more credit card interest than Australians. The other thing to consider is the US dollar - a few years ago it was worth around AUD $0.60, then AUD $0.70 - now the Aussie dollar is up to nearly $0.95 against the greenback. If the Australian dollar declines against the US dollar again you would lose what you saved in interest through changes in the exchange rate. This is what happened to Australians in the 1980s who borrowed US dollars when interest rates in the US were much lower than in Australia.
